So my girlfriend and I have decided we're going to have sex. First time for both of us even though we're both adults. We're going to go away for a weekend to do it. Any advice for making it great? What do you wish had been different about your first time?

A post about how women experience street harassment has been deleted. The one about how the psychology of exhibitionist men remains. The grounds:
This post was deleted for the following reason: one exhibitionism post per day is enough. This is linked in the thread just below this. Please don't use MetaFilter to forward your point from metatalk. -- jessamyn
My point was to continue a discussion some people thought valuable from a previous thread deleted apparently because that post was poor.
Just can't get the hang of this thing. Hey ho.

A good friend just received a brain cancer diagnosis with an estimated one year survival time. She wants to talk about death and time. She thinks I have something to teach or tell her worth hearing. I'd like to be helpful, but have no confidence in my ability to say or do anything meaningful. What I've said so far she appreciates.
What can I read that might help me frame discussions. I don't need pop psychology stuff, or advice dealing with the health care system or funeral arrangements. I like the idea of Zen notions of letting go but am too ignorant to know what to say.
Advice, experience, suggestions for gathering information please.

Myers-Briggs personality types made relevant
As you probably already know, the
Myers-Briggs Personality Sorter is intended to be a general, universal personality ID that divides people into one of sixteen distinct personality types, along axes if introverted (I) or extroverted (E), Sensing (S) or Intuitive (N), Thinking (T) or Feeling (F), and Judging (J) or Perceiving (P).

Does anyone know any techniques to avoid tears when they're on their way? Is there anything to help staunch the flow of tears - both physical and mental strategies? For either happy and sad occaisons? Or is there absolutely nothing one can do?

I'm looking for a good book to take on a vacation: nothing too heavy, but nothing too brain-dead. (Too heavy=Shake hands with the devil, Guns Germs and Steel, etc. Too brain dead = Shopaholic-type books, drugstore mysteries, etc). I want good writing without having to think too much. Something along the lines of The Corrections or The Time Traveller's Wife would be great.

I'm looking to rebuild my mathematics skills from the ground up so that I have proper habits. I'm looking to start from the basics and go straight up to calculus. Math was a subject in which I didn't pay as much attention to as I wish that I had and am looking to find the best sources of information on the subject.
I also would love software that would drill me kind of like speed reading software but for math.

MeFi Women: I am working on a book for girls that will feature a chapter on books that every girl should read -- books that changed your life, so to speak, and that you'd want your daughter to read before she's grown up. My list so far is inside. What would you add to it? (or boot from it?)

So I'm putting together a collection of "Rules for Life" as a gift for my 15 year old little brother, that I'll likely put together on one of those one-off vanity book publishery things... and I'm looking for some suggestions as to some good rules.
Looking for real advice for obscure situations one might find themselves in, great quotes that can inspire someone to live their life better, serious thoughts that people have realized later in their life that they wish someone had told them previously, and a good dose of humor. Cliche as it is,
Mary Schmich's "Wear Sunscreen" column gives a decent examples of the general tone I want for most of it.
So.... What else should I put in the book?

Is Metafilter too
labyrinthine, for a new comer at least?
I’ve been here for a couple of months now, and I’ve gotten to know a few people, but I still don’t feel as if I’ve become a part of the community yet? Not sure if that’s my fault, may be I should post more often, or comment more in other peoples’ threads, or post better FPPs, but the question’s been on my mind for some time now.
It just feels like a tough nut to crack. I am still trying though.
