I have no life...during the day.

I get bored and lonely on weekdays. What can I do?

Mom, Dad? I don't even have a closet.

How to deal when family thinks you're in the closet?

Which laptops will last, which will break? Online ratings anywhere?

Where can I find online laptop ratings about durability, repairs, or typical problems, the way Consumer Reports does for cars?

Dear Baroness Von Deletesalot

I wanted to call you tonight. Predictably enough I was in one of those confusing states of mind somewhere between desperation and liberation--too wound up to do anything about my condition. So, me being me, and me being in some city where the street corners don't mean shit to me, I set off walking trying to find God in the neighborhoods or in traffic or in the laugh of some homeless guy. Mainly though, I was trying to get lost... From Letters I Never Sent, a site "for Lovers. Liars. Crybabies. Sweetheats. Strangers. Best Friends. Old Friends. Exes. Enemies. Night Owls. Loners. Inmates. Vampires. Surfers. Soldiers. Jumpers. Writers. Widows. Ballerinas. Bastards. Gods."

Lisa Diamond's Place on the Web

"Many women experience a fluid sexual desire that is responsive to a person rather than a specific gender" A description of the topic for Lisa Diamond's new book, Sexual Fluidity. While waiting to get your copy of the book, why not read some of her papers? Here's one about young women who identify as lesbians or bisexuals and then change their minds. Was it a phase? (pdf) Here's one about the development of sexual orientation among adolescent and young adult women. (pdf) Here's one containing a new view of lesbian subtypes. (pdf) There are more.

I'd like to get better at protecting the things I love, self included.

How can I become less clumsy?

It's that time of year - free games all around.

It seems that everyone wants to post their toplists for free game recommendations at the moment. First up is Gnomes' Lair with 100 excellent free games in bloom. Can't forget 1up with 101 Free Games 2008. And last but still well worth checking out is Indiegames' (formerly Indygamer) Best Freeware Arcade Games 2007 and Best Freeware Adventure Games 2007. If that isn't enough for you, also worth taking a gander at is Javet's Freeware Game of the Day thread on Tigsource.

"When asked what gift he wanted for his birthday, the yogi replied: "I wish no gifts, only presence."

Yoga-centric gift giving: My sister is opening her own yoga studio and wellness center next month in South Carolina!

Recommend me some cartoons on DVD.

I like The Venture Bros., Harvery Birdman, Attorney at Law and Drawn Together. Recommend me some more cartoons on DVD that will appeal to my loves of (A) obscure retro cultural references, (B) surreal and ironic humor and (C) jokes about farts and boobies.

How do nice people do it?

I've always admired people who are just genuinely nice, warm folks and inspire everyone they talk to. I'd like to be one of those people when I grow up, but I don't know how to do it. Sometimes, when I do or say nice things, people get freaked out and think that I'm hitting on them, want something from them or am being insincere. That isn't the case, but every time it happens, I get a little more timid about doing nice things for people. It's easy to get by with a prickly Dorothy Parker routine, but that's not how I want to live my life. And I'm sick of not doing or saying nice things just because I'm not socially adept enough to pull it off. Being an asshole is easy, and no one ever questions your motives. How can I, as an introvert, act upon my nice impulses without freaking people out? What's the secret to being a mensch?

Are there books on animation outsourcing?

Are there any good books or resources on the American animation boom of the late 80s/early 90s that came as a result of outsourcing animation to (I think) Korean studios? Do any Mefites have a personal connection to animation during those years?
