Is there a service like ReadItLater/Instapaper for videos?

On the heels of my request for lectures, are there any services out there that would let me queue up videos and then download them to my phone, Instapaper style, for watching on the train?

What should a shared man cave have?

Inspired by this article I wonder how feasible it might be to start organizing a shared man cave for me and my suburban buddies. Most of us have no room to commandeer a room in our respective homes for such purposes. We get together 1-2 times per month to play poker and maybe 1-2 per month to watch a sporting event. Sometimes both at the same time. Since none of us are country club types (with country club money), this shared man cave idea might have some legs. Assuming a studio apt could be rented in a local apartment complex, what would you put in it? TV, cable, internet, bi-weekly cleaning, poker table all come to mind. What else? Also any logistical or legal considerations would be appreciated. Disclaimer: No need to banish the wives; they could use it for their get togethers, too. Just using the term "man cave" because it is familiar to most.

Tips on hiring digital assistant for 1-2 hours a day

What are good places to look for a digital assistant? I know there are services who act as the middleman in the transaction, has anyone used those successfully? Are there ones I should avoid? What questions should I ask a potential digital assistant?

Design Filter: Do I need to use these colors in a layout?

Posting for my wife, a graphic designer who is tasked with doing a website layout job for a client. Here's the rub: The company has an existing logo that's red and blue, but she doesn't necessarily want to use red and blue as the dominant colors in this particular layout, but someone from the company is convinced that they MUST use red and blue as the primary colors throughout the site. I've had no luck coming up with any kind of evidence to support my wife's point, and so now I'm here to query the hive. Do any of you design-minded folks know of any articles or collections of layouts that might help my wife make her case? Sorry if the question is very vague.

CMS VS POD

Content Management Systems allow users to manage/publish web content. A Print on Demand system allows users manage/publish print content. I need a single system that does both.

"Past misunderstandings, second chances, next years' projects."

I was used as a scapegoat, demoted and put on a performance improvement plan due to a toxic PM. Half a year later, the tables seem to have turned, and his boss wants to talk. I don't know what to say.

Help us eat healthy and save money with an infant

Mrs. Thabombshelter and I have a four month old son and would love to eat more meals that aren't takeout. Plus, with a baby, money is obviously a valuable and precious commodity. Easy prep and inexpensive ingredients are a priority. So please, help us with some suggestions for easy-ish, healthy-ish, cheap-ish meals that can help us avoid Papa Johns or Chinese takeout.

Recommendation of Books for 5yo Being Snubbed by Classmates

I am looking for some suggestions of book titles for books that a 5 year old girl can understand though not necessarily be able to read. She's encountering cliques in her kindergarten class, being snubbed, and the teacher is offering no help. I realize this is temporary but in the meantime surely there are books letting her know it happens sometimes and maybe some suggestions of how she can work it out. Thanks for any help.

I hate my job and I can't leave. How do I cope?

What's the "bless your heart" of your field?

I've noticed that a few professions seem to have a semi-common veiled insult specific to their field. These tend to be used in the same way that many southerners say "bless your heart" in lieu of calling someone stupid. For example, certain academics will say that a colleague is a gadfly (like Socrates...in an annoying way), and I've known nurses to say that another nurse "really should have been a doctor" when they think that colleague is full of it. What are some others?

It's like my body doesn't want to go back.

I have been on sick leave for the past 10 days due to first the flu, and then some flu-related complications. I am due to go back on Monday and I'm panicking, literally. The thought of going back to work made me burst out crying earlier this morning. I strongly suspect this is less about the flu right now, and more about general unhappiness with my work situation, and anxiety, but I'm a total mess. How do I pull myself together when I only have 72 hours left?

Work Goals?

Examples of cliched business speak in the US?

What annoying words and phrases are popping up too often in the US workplace? Whenever I try to think of an example, it is at least 5 years old and people aren't really using it anymore. For example, "hit the ground running" or "the competition ate our lunch". (But those are too old.)

Stepping around marketing markups?

I've noticed that mineral oil marketed to those who will use the oil on butcher blocks is much more expensive than food grade mineral oil that is marketed to those who will use the oil as a laxative. I buy the cheaper version, thank you very much. Are there other items out there where one can save a buck or two by purchasing the more cheaply marketed version of an item?

Non-intuitive food combinations that work

Blue? Only in color, Michael. Oh, also in mood.

I have self-diagnosed low-level depression and anxiety-- so low-level and constant that I think of it more like my personality than any disorder. Still, the days where it ebbs are pretty awesome. I've never been on psychoactive pharmaceuticals before. Experimenting with antidepressants (with a MD's supervision, of course): good idea/bad idea? Alternatives?

How much should I charge a former employer (that laid me off) for contract work?

I was recently let go ("cost cutting") from my job as a web developer, one that I've held for well over a decade at the same employer. After they gave me the news, they mentioned the possibility of me doing work for them in the future on a contract basis and asked what I would charge them. How much is a fair amount to charge them while making sure it's worth my while?

Job Hunting, It Defeats Me

I really need to find a better job, but I don't know where to start. How do I even figure out what job to look for? It's pretty clear that there is no promotion path for me whatsoever in my current job, and there are rumblings that my entire department is about to get transferred to someplace where I don't want to be. The only reasons I'm still here are inertia, fear of the terrible job market, and the fact that self-promotion makes me queasy.

Do kids do better with individual chores or group chores?

Parenting filter: I have two kids, 11 and 9. I'm a divorced dad trying to figure out a plan for their accountability for their chores when they're with me. The biggest stumbling block seems to be division of labor. On the one hand, assigning individual chores (Daughter, you wash the dishes. Son, you dry and put away) and rewarding for completion seems simple enough. But I want to teach them teamwork, negotiation, time management (who does what part first) and shared responsibility. So sometimes I say "Clean the kitchen, you figure out who does what". The latter seems better for a shared reward like a trip to the movies. Does anyone favor one approach over the other, and why? BTW they're coming from a household where their mom and I differed on how to handle chores, so they're a little used to coasting.

Is there a trick of your trade that you always do, even if the results are not noticed?

In your given field, is there one thing that you always do that may be overlooked but you consider it important? It may not be obvious, but it makes your work higher quality and/or more efficient and you can't imagine being happy with the work if you didn't do it.
