I'm a straight, white, upper middle class male. I'm aware that this automatically means I generally have an easier time than people with a different sexuality/race/class/gender. That said, I'm probably unaware of what these benefits are.
What does this 'privileged' status do for me that I don't even notice?

I have searched YouTube, Google and the MetaFilter archives until my eyes are bugging out of my head, so please forgive me if this has been posted. I'm trying to find a video of the SNL sketch with Steve Martin and Bill Murray, I believe from 1978, "What the hell is that?" Can anyone help?

How can I most practically improve my speaking voice? In everyday conversation I often mumble, slur words or speak too fast. I am not looking on ways to become a better public speaker, but to improve the articulation and speech patterns of everyday conversation.

You can keep your Simon, Randy and Paula, I'll take Barbara Cook any day.
Here is the Broadway legend's two hour master class (it's a REALTIME video from
The New York Public Library) and it'll teach you more about singing, phrasing and music than every moment of American Idol combined. At least watch the first 20 minutes, you'll be amazed.

Global Warming Filter: This might be a stupid question, but if enough polar ice has melted to open the

My life sucks. But the one good thing about being broke and unemployed is that you can do it anywhere. Assuming I were debt free with no commitments, where's a nice new place to go to scratch out a subsistence living as either a plumber, a waiter, or a dishwasher? Anywhere on the planet, English- or French-speaking (or anything easier than Russian or Chinese -- I'll have a few months to learn a new language as I pay my way toward escape), must have at least paved roads and indoor plumbing, and if the population hates Americans, I'd prefer that they do so abstractly rather than overtly. Canada, Iceland, and Belize seem kinda promising....

My question is two part:
Employers and HR people (or anyone else with input): You have received resumes from potential hires. All the resumes are standard with Education, Experience, Skills, etc. What are some of the things you wished you knew about the applicant before calling them for an interview? I'm not talking about questions like "Tell me more about your education." I'm asking about the questions that the resume creates in your head that aren't necessarily specific to the resume. Perhaps these are questions that traditional resumes don't cover. Interview are very costly in terms of time. I guess these are the type of questions that if you saw them spelled out on a resume you would have been even more or less interested in interviewing them.
Everyone else: If you were applying for a job, what would you want to know before applying that the ad would have left out? I'm not looking for answers like wages. I mean deeper things that go through your mind when applying.
Hopefully these questions aren't to vague, I am just looking at this to hopefully be a better hiring guru. Thank for your answers!

Renegade physicists! have published the book
Endless Universe and
talked to NPR's Tom Ashbrook about their alternative theories of the beginning of the universe: 'The Big Bang' is an
unfortunate misnomer and was not the beginning of time, but rather the
formation of a singularity in the universe. "And what we're seeing is that the Big Bang doesn't have to be the beginning of time. It's perfectly possible that the Big Bang was just a violent event in a pre-existing universe..."
