Some Guy's 78 Collection

The following is a list of over 3600 titles recorded from my collection of 78 rpm records....Right now, there are over 2,450 titles on this page linked to mp3's....I have about 2500 more records to record, so I'll be adding more titles as time permits over the next hundred years or so....I loaded a searchable ACCESS database for this list HERE. [.mdb] I don't know if it will work for everyone. Good luck!

Art Deco

Art Deco was the dominant style of the interwar era, coming out of Paris in the 1920's and ruling the roost until World War II broke out. Randy Juster's Decopix - The Art Deco Resource has enough pictures of Art Deco architecture to send one hurtling into The Gernsback Continuum. If that's not enough then there's always the 11000+ images of the Flickr Art Deco Pool. But Art Deco wasn't just about architecture. On the Victoria and Albert Musem's Art Deco site one can view Art Deco objects in great detail, rotating them and listening to audio lectures on each object. But before Art Deco was a design aesthetic it was an art-style. Illustrations for the Art Deco Book in France has more than 170 images from the proponents of that then-new style (some images are not safe for work, especially in the George Barbier section).

Free divider/filigree line art?

Find me some free, nice divider/filigree images that I can use in a printed booklet without getting pixelated looking. Stuff like this, but better:

What are the alcohol content(s) for different extracts?

I'm looking into producing some of my own extracts for baking. Specifically I am trying to find the FDA recommended alcohol content for different flavors (so if I make a lot, it doesn't spoil). Vanilla seems to be 35%, Peppermint 89%. I can't seem to find all the data in one area though. Is there some site that can give me what I need without hours of googling?

Marble run - marble = ?

We ate at Sonic last night and got a cool kids toy that consisted of marble run type pieces with magnetic backs for fridge use. However, instead of a marble, it had a wheel that rides the rails. My son has a birthday at the end of June and I would like to get a large set of these. I can only find the type with marbles, no good in my house. Where can I find the wheel type fridge roller coaster that will keep a 6 and 2 year old busy for hours?

Looking for a good silver polish

We need to polish some antique silver, but are afraid of ruining it or removing too much metal. We're talking about flatware, cups, serving dishes, and other tableware. Ideally we'd like a method that: damages the silver as little as possible, provides a long-lasting shine/reduces future tarnish rate, won't kill whoever eats with them.

How to say goodbye to someone already gone?

In the next month an important anniversary of a loved one's suicide will be coming up. I have never until this year dealt with the feelings involved with the death and the emotions involved in the loss. I have very little memories of the actual funeral involved (I was 13) but it has been suggested to me (by therapist) that maybe I may like to do some sort of memorial or ritual signifying it. I like this idea. I just have no idea how.

I gave up TV. Now help me buy a TV. (...Or a humongous monitor for my computer/dvd player.)

A couple months ago, I sold my old Sony Trinitron and gave up TV. It's been fantastic and I haven't really looked back. But I *have* been missing watching movies on a screen bigger than my 15” laptop. I've also always wanted a bigger monitor for my laptop, so I can juggle more projects at once. So I'm starting to look around for a large LCD monitor or sizable HDTV to serve these needs. I've had a couple co-workers at previous jobs tell me they use an LCD TV as a monitor and they swear by it for cost savings and multi-functionality.

"Leaving no trace [of our daily lives] is nearly impossible."

The Anonymity Experiment. Is it possible to hide in plain sight? Privacy-minded people have long warned of a world in which an individual’s every action leaves a trace, in which corporations and governments can peer at will into your life with a few keystrokes on a computer. Now one of the people in charge of information-gathering for the U.S. government says, essentially, that such a world has arrived.

ice cream for nothin'; chicks for free

Today is my birthday. No congratulations needed or sought; the gift of your answer to my query will suffice! How can I monetize this? Yes, I'm looking for places in New York City that will give me a free ice cream (or something else) in exchange for a quick glance at my ID. Preferably places that don't require me to be under 12. Thanks!

क़ूली

He's probably the first person you'll see if you've ever been to an Indian Train Station. Not as dramatic as has been immortalized on screen, but certainly no less forgettable either. He is one of many who waits for his turn to carry your luggage on his head, or his shoulders, and maybe even around his neck. He has dreams and ambitions too, and just wants to earn a decent enough living. But it can get tedious at times, especially with the odds stacked against him.

City Farmer is a Vancouver-based organization that's been promoting urban agriculture since 1978. If you dig around their sprawling website, you can find everything from this feel-good news story, to a series of links leading to a nice deep free book. Alternatively, their new blog has cool pictures.

What printer would you recommend for graphics department for printing color ads and proofs of magazine and newspaper pages?

What office printer would you recommend for a graphics department for printing color ads and proofs of magazine and newspaper pages? NEED Postscript level 3 compatibility , Ethernet, good type output and a nice chunk of RAM (256mb or more). We previously had phaser 8200DP, but it's slowly dying. 11x17 and duplexing would be nice, but not required.
