Meaningful places in India

What is your favorite place in India? I am traveling to India in August for a month, and want to know where to go. I'm not as interested in touristy spots, more places that were meaningful and struck a chord with you. What places made an impact on you during your trip? Where would you tell someone they HAD to go if you were giving suggestions to a friend?

Can this site be saved?

Webdeveloper Mefites, I come hat in hand. I enjoy design and created a site for my medical practice in iWeb. Now I realize it stinks in Explorer. Is there an easy way to remedy the situation? If not, what's a reasonable amount to pay someone to save me from myself?

All NY-ers: recommendations in Washington Heights?

Have any of you lived in Washington Heights, in Manhattan? I just moved to 162nd St. would appreciate any recommendations of a good local hardware store, handyman, pet store, supermarket or farmer's market, 24-hour bodega, good delivery or absolutely anything else that is worth seeing/knowing about around here.

Talking to the dying

A good friend just received a brain cancer diagnosis with an estimated one year survival time. She wants to talk about death and time. She thinks I have something to teach or tell her worth hearing. I'd like to be helpful, but have no confidence in my ability to say or do anything meaningful. What I've said so far she appreciates. What can I read that might help me frame discussions. I don't need pop psychology stuff, or advice dealing with the health care system or funeral arrangements. I like the idea of Zen notions of letting go but am too ignorant to know what to say. Advice, experience, suggestions for gathering information please.

Meaningful charity for picky recipient

What's a good charity to give money to in someone's name as a Christmas gift? Caveats: The intended recipients are quite concerned with poverty and the third world. Ideally, the charity will send some kind of card that I can give the recipient to inform him, and they would send the card in time for a December 25th exchange.

What are the most intellectually stimulating podcasts?

What podcasts will make me more intelligent just by listening to them? I enjoy the BBC's "In Our Time", which features serious discussion of historical events and people by academics working in the field, and also quirky, thought-provoking programs like WNYC's "Radio Lab" and "This American Life". I'm not so keen on some of the podcasts I typically get from newspapers that gloss over the surface of a subject with little analysis. What other highbrow podcasts are made by people who really know their shit?

The Mexican Bachelor

I am planning a bachelor party in January. The groom-to-be would like to go to Mexico to chill out, drink some beers, smoke some ganja, sit by the pool, eat some good Mexican food served by hot women, and sleep in a very nice bed. Where can this be done in Mexico? I guess I am looking for an all-inclusive resort that is laid back, lacking kids ( both little and college ), which has reasonable nightlife in the vicinity. Think Spring Break for well-heeled 30 year olds who have seen enough strippers and tequilla for a lifetime

The iPod of recovery

My cousin, a 30-something mother of two, is having surgery in four weeks to remove a brain tumor. Prognosis, unknown. The only thing she has asked for is some music appropriate for pre-surgery, post-surgery and/or physical therapy. Most of my ideas are pretty morbid. Suggestions? Any genre will do ...

9/11 changed everything? And the NSA is only looking at overseas and terrorist-related phone and internet records?

to gather information about Americans' phone records --... the NSA had approached the company (Qwest) about participating in a warrantless surveillance program to gather information about Americans' phone records. ...Nacchio's account, which places the NSA proposal at a meeting on Feb. 27, 2001, suggests that the Bush administration was seeking to enlist telecommunications firms in programs without court oversight before the terrorist attacks on New York and the Pentagon. The Sept. 11 attacks have been cited by the government as the main impetus for its warrantless surveillance efforts. ... -- The Administration's crimes and illegal spying on all of us and Quest's punishment for not going along with their plans.

Thank you for the coffee, monsieur. I shall miss that when I leave Casablanca.

Not going any time soon, but considering exploring Morocco within the year. Why? Ummm, I have no idea. So tell me about your best & worst experiences there. Best places to stay, best memories, worst memories, things not to miss, things to avoid, impressions of the country, the people, the food, the land, etc. Enlighten me. Inspire me to actually consider this. Or not.
