How can I overcome my sexual shyness?

I would like to be more, er, assertive in bed, but I'm too shy. How can I get past this? Is there a good self-help book on the subject? Is there anything you've personally tried that worked for you?

"He makes Gozer look like little Mary Sunshine."

Back in the 80s DiC produced a cartoon, aired in syndication and on ABC Saturday Mornings, called "The Real Ghostbusters." Based on the popular action-comedy movie, it more-or-less continued the adventures of Ray, Egon, Winston and Garfield Peter through seven seasons of supernatural shenanigans. It could have been a mere cash-in, but there was something more to it. It aspired to realism, at least as much as possible. It was story-edited by J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of Babylon 5. (He also worked on He-Man and Murder She Wrote!)
This may explain the second season episode, written by Michael Reaves and rife with Lovecraft references, in which the Ghostbusters face down the Cthulhu cult. Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

Crank the beat. Place the beat. Glitch the beat.

You say you don't like drum machines? Well, here's one even the staunchest Luddite has gotta love. Or you might like some of the recent experiments in making the interfaces more physical. And surely you'll admit this one's really very charming. Wanna go non-Western? Get yer talas out with this tabla machine. It'll be only a matter of time, then, till you get into the whole classical Hindustani gitchtronica thing, which is what the cool kids are into. [NOTE: see hoverovers for link descriptions]

Thirteen Days of Christmas

Straight No Chaser (Indiana University men's acapella group) performs this hilarious rendition of "The Twelve Days of Christmas." Want to perform it with your own acapella chorus? You're in luck. The sheet music is available as an inexpensive digital download.

I have not failed. I have just found ten thousand ways that won’t work.

A great quick read from the NYTimes. Why making mistakes is sometimes the best thing for us, and why we avoid it anyway.

Make my No Knead bread tasty-er!

I have fallen in love with this recipe for No Knead Bread. What (and when) should add additional ingredients to the dough?

So, did you survive eating the sandwich?

The great AskMe folllowup roundup -- sort of a pony, sort of a good idea. People, if you have posted an AskMe in the last year or so (meaning it is still live) and you found the answers helpful, and something happened as a result of the AskMe, many people are curious to know what the end result is. Going back, marking best answers if you haven't done so, and telling us what the heck ended up happening would all be much appreciated.

At The Mountains Of Madness

A short surf instrumental. One of the bands I'm currently in, The Filthy Thirds, has started a side project/alter ego group called The Boogeymen. It is a horror/surf project where we mash up classic horror movie persona's with early 60's surf. We wrote all our own surf songs, our only cover being a "Wipeout" style version of John Carpenter's "Halloween" theme. Our debut show is in a couple of weeks and we will play in costume. My character is Mummy Holly. This song gets its title from an H.P. Lovecraft book, and was recorded with a hanging mic in the basement, yet is surprisingly clear. Some lead guitar was overdubbed.

Fool Suffering Filter!

It's a fact of life: some of us are brilliant & utterly delightful to deal with, and then there are... other people.
