Help me hold my head up high

I'm very tall (6'6"), and like most tall people, struggle with posture - I tend to slump my shoulders forward and tilt my head down, especially when standing. Are there any exercises that target that area (upper back, neck) that will pull the shoulders back and make standing/sitting properly "feel right"? (I lift weights regularly, but I think my back is a weak spot - the more I lift, the worse I feel my posture gets.)

Self-Help Strategies

I’ve just finished reading The Now Habit, an incredibly useful and inspiring book on overcoming procrastination. What’s the best approach to implementing and then retaining the strategies presented in this, or any other, book?

It's not just for Kenyans anymore!

Once you go barefoot, you won't go back For many serious runners, the best running shoe is no shoe at all. Barefoot runners find themselves less prone to injuries such as plantar fascitis and ankle sprains, possibly because their feet get such a good workout. For those who would like to experience the benefits of barefoot running without the worry of road hazards like broken glass and cooties, Vibram Fivefingers are the next best thing.

What are some exercises I can do to build upper body strength and lose some weight/inches off my waistline? Difficulty: small room, next to no fitness equipment.

urban bike

I'm looking for a good urban bicycle, a bit sturdier than a road bike but not as gonzo as a mountain bike, ideally priced under $1000. I know this has been asked here before, but not in a few years, so I'm sure new models have come out, etc. Anyone got any favorites?

What is in "punch", England early 19th C

In many of Dickens' novels he talks about "punch". Hot steaming punch on a cold night around the fire. Cold punch at a summer garden party. A ruffled character smelling of tobacco and punch. How was "punch" typically made, what's in it and why was it the popular drink of choice, indeed almost a "punch culture".

Can I make bathroom ceiling mold go away?

The previous owners of my house obviously painted the bathroom ceiling with the wrong kind of paint. I now have extensive mold growth. Do I have any options, other than ripping the ceiling out and starting over?

Right About Now / Funk Soul ... Uncle?

Depending on your age, you may have heard him as Shredder or any one of a handful of characters for which he provided voices, but arguably James Avery's most famous role is as Uncle Phil on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." When Uncle Phil goes on a diet, he's orgasmic at the very thought of Thanksgiving dinner. Well, someone saw this clip and thought: "Why not?" Of all the bizarre things to remix, this has to be the one of the oddest — and although the visual is nothing to write home about, the audio must be heard to be believed. (Separating this into its separate components, there are also very odd remixes of Fresh Prince, and very odd remixes of spuds.)

How can I become a better guitar player?

On-line guitar tools

So you wanna be a rock and roll star. Here's a place to start. GOSK, or the guitarist's online survival kit, is a very handy guide to both scales and modes as well as all chords in all positions on the neck. In order to put it all together, and map modes to chord progressions and really start jamming, this little php widget is pretty helpful. Though in all things, even if you want to learn from the masters, you should never forget the basics. However, if you decide that using these online utilities to improve your performance is too much, you can always go back to school, or else forego training entirely and emulate rock star attitude and style in real life situations.

Online Rock Guitar Lessons

The Riff-O-Matic will help you learn to play rock & roll guitar, or at the very least, will help you play several of the most famous riffs in rock & roll history. Using a combination of sheet music, tablature notation & embedded (flash) audio & (windowsmedia) video, the site will get you up & playing the intro to Stairway to Heaven in the guitar store in no time. If you don't have time to learn whole songs, there's even an abridged list of the 10 Greatest Rock Riffs of All Time.

Vegetarian needs "respectable" article about protein in all foods

My new doctor is one of those older doctors who believe that vegetarian diets lack protein unless you eat the "right" things. I would like to find an article to give her about how there is protein in everything.

Sort of an ancient Hindu Linnaeus kinda thing?

Within religious traditions which involve reincarnation to or from various animal forms, have any religious scholars created hierarchical lists of the known beings which one could potentially get reincarnated as? Like: 1. Human 2. Mouse 3. Mosquito If so: who's done this, when did they write this, and where can I find this list?

Boom boom bap.

It may lack the hilarity of an unaccompanied David Lee Roth crooning to himself like a lunatic, but surely someone has a use for twenty three unaccompanied John Bonham drum tracks.

Looking for something a little different to listen to

Looking for good, guitar-driven new music that rocks, but that's away from the early 80s influenced, quirky indie pop that's been so ubiquitous of late. Can you help?
