Jezebel.com editor on
why she hasn't been raped: "I think it has to do with the fact that I'm like smart. I don't hang around with frat guys" -- a quote from
Jezebelism: Lizz Winstead's interview with
Moe Tkacik and
Tracie Egan (aka
Slut Machine). Winstead's intent was "to have a conversation about Hillary and sexism, women’s magazines and if they feel any obligation to write about responsibility and safety when they write graphically about their sex lives." After the interview Winstead stated: "I don’t know if they came to the show drunk, or just ended up drunk by the time they hit the stage, but what I do know is that the discussion that ensued was deeply disturbing to me..."

Hans Reiser leads police to the body of his wife.
Software engineer Hans Reiser, who was convicted in the murder of his wife, Nina, long denied he killed her. His defense was based on the theory that she was hiding out in her native Russia and her body could not be found. Today, in a possible exchange for a shorter sentence he led police to the shallow grave of Nina Reiser, just a moment's drive from the house he lived in with his mother and two children.

What skill should I learn next? What should I know? I enjoy learning, so I'm looking for new things to learn -- ideally some kind of skill (ie., not facts about obscure revolutions in the 18th Century).

What things are worth the time and cost of doing/making myself? For example, tomatoes from the store are miles below the ones I grow in my garden. Fresh-baked bread is amazing. But knitting socks or a sweater seems hardly worth it, despite the fact that I can customize it, because of the high cost of the time and materials.

I am looking for true tales of adventure, preferably memoirs. Here are some examples I've already enjoyed: Apsley Cherry-Garrard's "The Worst Journey in the World", Thomas Cochrane's "Autobiography of a Seaman", and Ernie O'Malley's "On Another Man's Wound" and "The Singing Flame". Priorities are quality of writing, closeness of the writer to the events being described, and extremity of the adventures.

RecipeFilter: oranges. Oranges were buy 2 (3 lb bags) get one free today. Just juiced, zested, and peeled first two bags, yielded a quart of juice (which we'll drink), plus half a cup of zest and a cup of de-pithed peel before I ran out, so to speak, of my own juice.
Now what?

Dyeing with Kool-Aid basic how-to.
The best thing is the
color chart. A good idea for
a party, maybe? As usual, the folks at Flickr have got the goods: Kool-Aid dyed yarns in the Hand-dyed pool [

2], and the Yarn Porn pool, [
1], [
2]. And if you're one of those people who just hates to do things the easy way? Multi-colored custom yarn with Kool-Aid tutorial
part 1 and
part 2.

I love
Chili's salsa, it isn't full of chunks of veggies like the salsas I've tried in the store (and I think I've tried them all). Last night I went to
On The Border and found out I liked their salsa even better. A similar consistency, but spicier and with some cilantro.
What kind of salsa am I looking for (ordering online is fine, or brick and mortar in metro NY) that is most similar to these two?

I'm headed to Sydney all next week for business, and I'm bringing my 5-months-pregnant wife with me... The problem: we don't know anything about Australia. We're staying at a very nice hotel in the Rocks and won't have a car. With that in mind, can you recommend some things to do? Also, are there any decent online equivalents to the U.S. alt-weekly papers, with current concert, event, and dining recommendations?

The Lighthouse Directory. An information portal for over 9000 lighthouses, and sites of former lighthouses, all around the world. Photos, histories, technical specifications, etc. Most of the links are very thorough, with some including excerpts from keepers' logs. The site also includes links to current news stories and general historical articles related to lighthouses.

Alternative for chest of drawers to keep clothes? I'm moving to a new apartment and don't feel like lugging a heavy chest of drawers 3 stories.
What are good ways for you to store clothes that makes it easy to access most of them daily and doesn't look too "ghetto"? Plastic drawers are an option of course.

I used to get the cheapest liquid soap for washing hands I could find, but recently, I got the "shea butter" soap for $3 and found that the increased quality more than makes up for the increased cost. The question is: What else can I spend a little more on to get much more quality? (Fluffy towels, sheets, maybe?) Are there websites that review this?

Helen Keller speaks.
As an elementary school student of the 60's, I was schooled in Helen Keller's amazing accomplishments. I had no idea that there were
video records and
great stills. I am humbled. At least for today.
Anne Sullivan rocks, she should have been the first woman president.

Help me pack my bags. I'm anything but a seasoned traveler, and now (insert excitement emoticon) am headed to Berlin for three months. Please tell me about what I do about the different voltage thing they have over there and what it means for my cell phone charger. Tell me if I can put my American health insurance on hold because of the glories of the European welfare state. Tell me how and if Germans tip. Recommend the best carry-on suitcase/bag ever.

Give me your best games to play while waiting in line, going on long car trips, or on airplanes. Requirements: 2 or preferably more players, minimal, self-made or no equipment necessary (deck of cards is OK), and fun! So far I have: rock/scissors/paper tournament, Mafia/Werewolf, 20 questions. I need more!
