A bit overstated, don't you think?
The results of meta-analysis provide evidence for a relationship between cannabis use and earlier onset of psychotic illness, and they support the hypothesis that cannabis use plays a causal role in the development of psychosis in some patients. The results suggest the need for renewed warnings about the potentially harmful effects of cannabis.
Reefer madness indeed!

Cannabis is the most widely used addictive substance after tobacco and alcohol.

Me and my coffee machine laugh at this, and laugh, and laugh.

Alcohol use was not associated with a significantly earlier age at onset of psychosis.

Silver lining!

It is associated with an earlier onset of waking up next to someone whose name you can't remember.

So early onset psychotics are self medicating? This isn't news.

Yeah, what's the deal with "deal with it"? Seems kind of combative.

Anyway, I was also struck by the casual assertion that cannabis is addictive. When was that established?

"Some patients" are those that are predisposed to developing those disorders anyhow due to genetics and yes, heavy cannabis use in the teenage years (specifically) can trigger illness in those people. If it triggered psychosis in everyone we would have seen a dramatic increase in the number of people diagnosed with psychotic illnesses in the past 30 years, but we haven't. The percentage of people diagnosed with Schizophrenia has remained constant but cannabis use has increased significantly.

Correlation does not equal causation.

The link title should be read with an inner voice of a fist banging emphatically on the table with every fragment-ending period. Then the inner voice's hand got sore, which is why it wussed out and didn't continue on with Deal. With. It.

Alternately, they could represent pauses to inhale and hold. That also works.

"This study lends weight to the view that cannabis use precipitates schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, perhaps by an interaction between genetic and environmental factors as has been suggested for cannabis and catechol O -methyltransferase21-22 or by disrupting brain development, especially during the important neurological maturation that takes place during adolescence."

So it's OK if you're older than 18?

Not exactly the best framing of a post ever.

This doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know. The legal status of cannabis will still continue to come into line with its remarkably low risk profile, however slowly.

According to the Mayo, it is possible to become psychologically addicted to pot.

What else is it possible to become psychologically addicted to? Tanning. Ice. Dirt.
