This is no time to be precious about locating the exact individuals directly involved in this particular terrorist attack.

Because we don't want justice as much as we want other people to die, too.

We all watch in horror as Palestinians cheer in the streets over the loss of innocent people in America, but you can bet yahoos like Ann Coulter will be jumping with joy when we kill innocent people in Afghanistan/Iraq/wherever.

They weren't terrible lying douchebags like our former President and First Lady! Huh? What do you mean this has no relevance to current events?

hostile, lumpen mesomorphs ripping open our luggage . . . Airports scrupulously apply the same laughably ineffective airport harassment to Suzy Chapstick as to Muslim hijackers

Did want to post this to the front page, because it doesn't deserve it. But if you think Coulter's bad, listen to Jerry Falwell on today's 700 Club. I presume they have the latest one up on this page. The Rev. said gays and lesbians, as well as the ACLU, etc., etc., share the blame for the terrorist actions. I was channel surfing, and caught him for a bit, caught the hate lines within a minute. What a mean SOB.

I laughed out loud at Coulter's column, but it's really not funny that she has a national platform where she's free to go completely apeshit. (Normally, I would think this is an overreaction to the death of a friend, but Coulter's always writing stuff like this.)

I can understand when a paper does a man-on-the-street interview with a person who says we should kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out -- there's no shortage of idiots in the country.

However, the publishers and TV producers who give Coulter a forum should recognize the perils of demagoguery like this.

As for Barbara Olson, I didn't agree with her TV work or her writing, but her efforts to alert people to the hijacking were remarkable. Trashing her now -- and claiming that she made you do it -- is pathetic.

No apparent awareness on Coulter's part that the Third Reich was officially a "Christian" regime.

In that context, you're right to put "Christian" in scare quotes. "Official" was also an appropriate modifier. Hitler publicly used Christianity as propaganda, but actually intended it's elimination from Germany.

Monsters always seem to cloak their evil in the guise of good. Both Islam and Christianity have had their precepts distorted beyond all reality in order to "justify" terrible atrocities.

am guessing she didn't see the BBC footage of Christians throwing rocks at Catholic school children and their mothers in Ireland last week.

Which had as much to do with Christianity as Islam had to do with planes smashing into buildings. People often do things in the name of religion, or while being viewed as representatives of their named religion that are condemned by the very teachings of what they supposedly believe. We all know that. We've seen examples of that from the Crusades to the Holocaust to the Taliban.

Those who have gone on violent and murderous rampages in Northern Ireland and Adolph Hitler are no more true followers of Christianity than Osama bin Laden, and he is no more a righteous Muslim than Pat Robertson. Both of these religions forbid murder, forbid violence against the innocent. We only do more damage by suggesting that these religions in their true forms have anything to do with these acts. Especially now, by continuing to promote the Arab = Islamic = Terrorist concept we will continue to see Mosques attacked and Arab (or merely dark-skinned) peoples of all religions being held up for contempt on our streets.

Indeed. What amazes me is when (fundamentalist - do not want to generalize here!) Christian politicians say things like, "evil deed" or "ungodlike deed" and fundamentalist middle eastern terrorists might say that they did it FOR god. Okay - THAT doesn't amaze me - what amazes me is when you can look at them and see that Original Star Trek Episode of the black/white man and the white/black man - mirror images. Therefore she decided to play the, as some guys has already said, the "Blonde Fascist". She managed to carve herself a place in the talking head market.

With all this bandying about of the term "Christian" and the foolish things a lot of people are saying who call themselves such, I think it is important to look to the words of Jesus Christ, the only true measure of what a "Christian" response should be.

In part, the Sermon on the Mount says this:

"You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.'
But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.
Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.
Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.
You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.'
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

Announcer: posting the exact same text, on two different threads, doesn't do much for anyone.

Announcer: No.

Revbrian: If you can't decide then you are one sick person. I'd rather encounter 10,000 stupid, hate-filled newspaper columns than a single innocent person killed .

Whoa, slow down there buddy. I agree with you and am sickened by innocents/anyone dying. My point was that I'm still so much in shock of what happened that I can't yet feel ill about that... I can, however, read words that instead of helping me feel better, continue to push me over the edge. And that makes me sick.

"Your basic thesis makes sense to me but the presentation's way out of line. Has anyone here actually complained about anything so trivial as longer waiting times in airports and, if so, why do you think their credibility would be unquestioned? Do you really think that everyone (or anyone for that matter) just sits here without giving blood/money/time to the cause or going to support marches/meetings? I don't.

i have to say, estopped, that the most damned intelligent thing i have read - EVER - here at MeFi. you single-handedly just changed my thinking about this place - honestly. no, i didn't think everyone posting here were a bunch of losers, but at times i have wondered where the value was in a lot of talk. i hate to resort to "it's all so clear to me now", but hey, it works for the occasion. thanks for the intelligent words.

on to the subject. racial profiling? idiotic. enhanced security? a need. converting all of them (whoever "them" might be at the moment) to Christianity - preposterous. i have to say i understand this author's anger, but watching what comes out of the mouth is ever so important. people seem to skip right over the important, COMMON SENSE stuff in the Bible, and would rather RIP verses completely out of context for monetary, political, and personal gain. let' see if we can shed some light for this misinformed lady here:

"All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you're an expert at telling lies. " Psalm 52:2

"O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? " Psalm 120:3

"16)There are six things the LORD hates--no, seven things he detests: 17) haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, 18) a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong," Proverbs 6:16-18

"So also, the tongue is a small thing, but what enormous damage it can do. A tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. " James 3:5

"And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is full of wickedness that can ruin your whole life. It can turn the entire course of your life into a blazing flame of destruction, for it is set on fire by hell itself." James 3:6

i could go on and on. if this woman indeed wants to convert ANYONE to Christianity, i suggest she read up on it a bit more.

if people have editorial skills, now is the time to use them to build up, to help, to provide useful information, not allow your anger to turn your own mouth into a lethal weapon. its is time to build, not tear down. i know *my* God (that would be Christ, just so the author knows) would have it NO other way.

Just in case you can't get enough of the Foxy Fascist, here's a link to a fan site. Dig that leggy photo! Zowee!

And if that's not enough Ann for you, here's a link just chock full of sexy photos.

These are really weird pages. Not the content, just the imagery. It's like those X10 ads selling webcams with the pictures of beautiful women but they're "selling" a political ideology with sex. Maybe soon political ads will be like beer ads.

The Sermon on the Mount = one of the most beautiful and most ignored passages of the New Testament.
You'll be glad to know that Bill Gates, as a schoolkid, committed it all to memory and won a prize for this feat. Check out his biography if you don't believe me

It's because of people like Ms. Coulter that we were attacked in the first place.

As far as I'm concerned, she got what she deserved.

A pathetic thing to say, but that's the kind of hatred disgusting people like her create.

After I get through puking, I'll someday explain to you what a revolting hypocrite you are.

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity."

The events of this week have mainly had the effect of bringing moderates on both sides of the political spectrum together. Unfortunately, it appears to have also pushed those on the outer edges completely off the scale. In times like this, we can see various politicians and media pundits for what they really are.

Also, to the above posters, I should point out that Ann is not a real blonde.

The letter I wrote to National Review:

Ann Coulter's column acheived a rare trifecta being simultaneously moronic, racist, and un-Christian. As far as I can tell, the course of action she recommends involves the indiscriminate slaughter of non-combatants and forced religious conversation of the infidel. While a 21st century revival of the Crusades and the Inquisition may have a certain romantic appeal to those nostalgic for the Dark Ages as a public policy prescription for those not totally insane it leaves something to be desired.

Ms. Coulter's column can perhaps be understood, if not excused, as the product of a mind unhinged by grief. What is the excuse of the editior who chose to run it?

(barfs)

(barfs again)

She was only half-cocked, until she got to that part about converting "them" to christianity.

As if nobody has ever been killed in the name of christianity.

An example of a particulary nasty bigot. We need more Barbara Olsens, living in Afghanistan!
