reminds me of jimmy corrigan... and thats DEFFINATELY a good thing. Also good online comics are www.demian5.com and the classic www.e-sheep.com.

You can also see the best part of Diesel Sweeties in his own comic, Indie Rock Pete Hits Indie Rock Bottom. They're only two strips into it, but so far it's brilliant.

atom128 beat me t o the Chris Ware reference - it's clearly derivative of his work (which, again, is a good thing).
Spealking of which, Mr. Ware's latest Acme Novelty library just cam out today. As usual, it's astonishing.

Wow, that was like watching a train wreck in slow motion.
actually, it's fairly cool after you've cached all the pages to go back and click through them really fast using the forward button -- it's really quite animated.
meanwhile, I seem to have forgotten the link for my favorite online comic (for "mature readers") that features a flexible giraffe (i think) with a propensity for masturbation. i've searched for it, but to no avail. anyone know what i'm talking about -- or was it all just a crazy dream? (jack chick style crazy, that is.)

`what is so interesting about it. The graphics are harsh and ugly, and the text feels flat and pointless. Worse, there is no apparent relationship between the text and the graphics.
What am I missing? Why are people excited about this?

That all seems appropriate enough to me, Mars, to portray a life that must feel harsh, ugly, flat, and pointless ....

The harsh nature of the graphics perfectly illustrate the relationship.
This blew me away. Yes, it's an ugly horrible situation, but it also felt very real. It is sad that some people abuse each other like this, but haven't we all been messed up like this at some point in our lives? Utterly blind to the faults of our partner? Blindsighted by passion?

I guess I agree with Mars (and I love Chris Ware, so don't start with me). I don't have so much patience with even even artful depictions of hysterical, overwrought emotions anymore. Maybe if I was 20 again. And the (what I take to be) ironic (and no, I don't mean Alanis-ironic) juxtaposition of the text and images just didn't work for me.
Don't get me wrong, though, I'm happy work like this exists; it's just that this one in particular doesn't stike me as especially interesting.
(By the way, Diesel Sweeties just...blows. Sorry, atom.)
