Visual Truth or Random Image?

Visual Truth or Random Image? We always thought we knew the man behind MetaFilter. But go to Google's Image Search and type: founder of metafilter. Well . . . now you really know.

What's even more frightening is if you type the same thing in the AltaVista image search you get a reflection of Ayatollah Khomeini.

I dunno, jacknose. It looks like a faithful rendition of Matt's and MetaFilter's star status to me. But who the hell is the other guy?

metafilter search function has been as rock solid and reliable as any of bill's software of late. oh wait...it IS bill's software...

yeah, but, jacknose, which one of these is you?

Thank god for that. I was expecting for a moment there to see Bert.

Yaaaaayyyy!! My dog and cat appear and not Bill Gates!

Google obviously don't like us much. Check out their idea of a typical MetaFilter member. Are we really that snarky?
posted by MiguelCardoso at 7:08 AM on November 9, 2001

And here are more MetaFilter members, but this time *red light goes on* with the mature content filter OFF. Talk about hardcore!

Blimey! First Bill Gates, now Jenna Bush.

So George Bush's niece is a runaway model in Milan? How come this hasn't been on the news. Have they found her yet?
posted by dlewis at 7:25 AM on November 9, 2001

Here's another quirk. If you search "Metatalk" with the modesty filter on you get no photo of Matt. But if you go wild and switch it off, then you get the famous Matt-in-a-hat picture. Now I've inspected this image from top to bottom, even looking for hidden Berts, but, for the life of me, can find nothing in it I wouldn't wish my daughters to see. Or am I missing something?

machaus, Django is no doubt one bad-ass cat. (mattpfeff, I'm the babe.)

Matt does look pretty racy in that photo. (Note to self: keep the filter on.)
posted by jacknose at 7:49 AM on November 9, 2001

What about Optamystic unfiltered? Didn't realize how popular I am: 1,460 immature and 15,500 mature images of "Carol Anne." (None of me, though!)

So George Bush's niece is a runaway model in Milan?

Ahh... on second reading it actually says runway model. I'll get my coat.

WARNING: Do not click on the "sexy metafilter" results, with the filter off, if you're easily offended. Thank you.

again, with the filter on...nothing. but turn it on, and ...

The Register confirms that open source software would not exist were it not for the (Google) founder of metafilter.

danOstuporStar: I suspected as much. I get the message, I'm going to lay off for a while. :-)
Boy, does Google suck! What can the search criteria be?

Holy crap! ... I'm sorry, quonsar... I never knew that such an array of disturbing images could exist like that...

As for me, I think this means that I'm actually a direct descendant of the pharaohs and I must go claim my rightful place as ruler of Egypt at once!

... or maybe it's just kinda weird but meaningless.

Yeah, this pretty much sums it up for me. VNC, the 5k, Metafilter, and Miss Cleo.

Apparently my great-great-great Grandfather was a famous mathematician. When I went to Slovenia I found some of my relatives, and I already knew that the "j" was dropped off of my last name. I love google.
