I always knew my fish sign would be good for something! Turns out it's good for massive world cataclysm accompanied by positive social change. This line is true:

Most of the astrological analyses of the September 11 attacks have focused on the opposition between Saturn and Pluto that began in August 2001 and finishes in May 2002. The darkest potential of these powerful planets correspond closely to these dangerous times.

I'd find astrology much more fun--and much less pathetic--if it wasn't so easily debunked. Do these astrologists suggests that somehow the terrorists were aware (even extrasensorily) three years ago that Saturn would be opposing Pluto starting in august 2K1? Because that's probably when the planning for the attack first began. Astrology forces you to throw out every last bit of logic to believe it. Even the most ludicrous cults don't ask you to do that.

My mother is a Pisces. And, unbelievably, she has vision; dreams; is spiritual; believes things; has taken drugs; self-sacrifices (hey, she's a mother); serves (at institutions!); is a nurse in a hospital; I'm sure has danced; enjoys theater and music; and heck, the sea too; has certainly seen fog; often drinks liquids; possesses feet. Only the Neptune thing scotches a perfect score, dude. Quod erat fucking demonstratum.

There is no consenus among modern astrologers as to when an "age" begins or even what one is. This article is not about astrology as it's actually practiced.

Similarly, no credible astrologer (leave it alone) would suggest that events such as the terrorist attacks can be predicted by the motion of the planets.

Nope. Astrology would simply have you accept that which has been proven time and again throughout recorded history -- that our perception, naked or enhanced by all of the tools we've developed, is insufficient to reveal everything that's going on in a given situation.

It'd be interesting for someone who actually practises astrology to comment on this thread, since I think I speak for most of us rabid rationalists when I say that I don't really understand the mechanics of it. There is empirical evidence that shows trends career- and personality-wise in people born under different signs. Me, my Mum and my Nan were all born within the same seven-day period (on different years, obviously :D) and we're about as alike as, well, a son, a Mum and a Grandma, to be honest... ie not at all alike.
I only believe in astrology when my horoscope says 'You have a week of steam passion ahead - look out Cap, you big rascal, you!' Otherwise it's a load of hokum; 1999 was supposed to be the year of 'the Grand Cross', a planetary alignment portending certain doom, and most of us survived that. Having said that, I'm a Capricorn, and we're all grim-faced old sceptics, the lot of us.

I always thought astrology made somewhat sense because as you look into the stars you are looking at the past, and the way that the universe was. The further the stars are away from us, the further into the past we are seeing. How that is supposed to tell us anything about events here on Earth though, I don't know. Anyone know anything about the space time continuum? My question is, if there are two planets with living humanoids on them and large telescopes looking at each other at the same time, are they both in the past? Or more likely, they won't be able to see each other will they? And why does that make sense?
