I know someone that refuses to correct mistakes while IMing because of "mutual intellegibility". If you can understand him, why should he have to correct mistakes?

(It becomes really anmpying to have to read hjis messaes thought.)

I mean intelligibility. Due to the topic, I couldn't let that mistake slip by.

Who corrects their IMs?

I thought you were talking about these O'Reilly books.

My title.

*I* correct my IMs, using the normal method for this (as do most people I know). Let's say I send:

monickels: You're going to the teh shew?

Then on the next line I would correct it with:

monickels: the show

The "u" in place of "you" is hideous, even with mutual intelligibility. There's not a finite amount of characters coming out of your keyboard. You can type all the letters and they'll keep coming until your computer dies. Billions and billions. Nor is there a need for speed on Metafilter. Those extra two characters per word are not going to make you miss a deadline.

I think it's okay, but only if you're Prince.

Yeh, I can't stand the 'u' for 'you' either, the sad thing is, I'v been talking to a lot of chicks from hotornot lateley and I caught myself almost saying:

u?

at one one point (in the place of something like 'and you?') arg.

The phrase" 'nuff said ", outside of scare quotes, makes me irrationally angry.

there!! we're all happy now r'nt we?

When reading something that is spelled with a "u" where it should say "you," I always mentally pronounce it "oo." Thus:

Have oo finished reading the complete collection of O'Reilly books?, and thought oo could do better, but dont know where to start. Well oo can try designing the front cover.

(Oh, I use the normal method as well. I was thinking proofreading -- my pinky slams that return key as soon as my thought is text.)
