Phenomenally gorgeous photos. They really convey a feeling of New Orleans. I've only spent a week there as a tourist, but when I think of where else in the world I want to travel "back to NOLA" is at the top of my list.

Oh, yay! Got to visit New Orleans for the first time last fall and got to meet some of the awesome mefites there, including komara. Great city, great people.

Nice stuff. I'm not a huge fan of the way some (most) of the compositions crop the ground and look up. There's very little foreground in a lot of the landscape/cityscape shots. The Bourbon St shot, for example, could be so much better if the visual centre of the photo was at least at the third instead of being almost at the bottom of the frame. I keep wanting to point the camera down in my mind.

I am not much of a photographer, but I've taken some of my favorite pictures in New Orleans. It's such a photogenic city. It's lovely to see what someone with better skills and equipment can do with it. I love the headless St. Joseph with the pocket watch, and the pumpkin skull man, particularly.

I was impressed by the fog pictures, and amused by the Carver Medical Building. Wish they had called it a surgery.

Yeah, in case anyone thought Treme was a set designer's fantasy -- no, there are large areas of the city that really do look like that.

jimmythefish: I totally understand your preference there. I have a tendency to find the foreground uninteresting so I go with a sky-dominated shot, but I know that's not everyone's favorite.
Cranberry: the Carver has an incredible history as one of the first places for an African-American crowd to catch shows while venues were still segregated. As you can see in the picture I posted it moved on to other functions, and then after Katrina it languished. Fortunately it's set for a grand revival. I love driving by and seeing the new sign with all the lights, and knowing that it's bringing some positive energy to the neighborhood just down the street from me.
EvaDestruction: the pumpkin skull man is a self-portrait - like so many other New Orleanians I dabble in papier mache and that was my Halloween costume a few years back.

komara, I have the same tendency to emphasize the sky in my compositions. I really like these.

Komara there is something really perfect about the heavy, real, connective, used, lived in nature of the photographs you take. I like to sit outside and think about how many thousands of people have walked down this sidewalk, how many hundreds have sat in this spot, how many tens have thought these same thoughts. I get that feeling from your photos as well.
