Think you're dedicated? Aussie football player has a finger chopped off at the first joint because it was affecting his ability to catch the ball.

Been there, done that: Ronnie Lott, 1985.

Sometimes when I run out of fingernails to bite, I wish I had more fingers.

johnny7: wrong game. Chick is an Aussie Rules player, not a Rugby League player.

This isn't the first time either:
Chick will be able to take inspiration from the deeds of Melbourne legend Jack Mueller, who lost two fingers above the knuckle in a timber mill accident while in his first year of football in 1934.

Mueller, who died last year aged 85, resumed his career in a protective glove and went on to play 216 games with the Demons, including the 1939, 1940-41 and 1948 grand final wins.

He was renowned for his marking, which was reportedly unimpaired despite his accident.

Anyone read "A Prayer for Owen Meany" where owen chops off his friend Jim's finger with an engraving saw so that he won't have to go into the army during the Vietnam War?

This reminds me of a story my trumpet teacher I had while in High School told me once. He spent years gigging in LA before returning home. He told me about trumpet players who would go to doctors to have thier teeth made crooked so they could play higher easier.

Knock-ons are to be encouraged in Aussie Rules. Rugby League, the game of champions, frowns upon them.

More of a Union man myself being in Scotland. Mind you, our union team isn't that much cop.

But every time I think of Aussie Rules, I remember a match shown on Channel 4 many moons ago between an Aussie Rules team and a Gaelic Football team. That was an awesome display of free-form violence.
