Even if you hate San Francisco and think it is filthy, there are some good things there. Unfortunately, there may soon be one less good thing if the National Park Service doesn't make plans to accommodate this historical treasure trove. They want to rebuild the Cliffhouse and have no current space allotted for the Musee Mechanique. As many people will attest , it's a wonderful place for children and adults alike. You can sign the petition if you care or think it will help.

there are various efforts underway to save the musee, many of them summarized here . the owner of the musee is in discussions with the parks dept, who have officially expressed interest in finding a new home. we'll see what we can do to help. also sad is that the camera obscura, which can't really be moved, may close as well.

Thanks for the links. The Musee is one of those beautiful, slightly derelict attractions I always try to visit when I'm in SF. Would be sad to see it disappear.

Ah, yes. Laughing Sal.

She continues to haunt me in my own nightmares.
