Reader, I married them...

Tuesday night, after Amy Poehler had wrapped up her interview with Carrie Brownstein at a Pasadena, California event to promote Brownstein's new memoir, Hunger Makes me a Modern Girl, they turned to the audience to ask if anyone had any questions for Carrie. Two young women, Kendall and Genevieve, raised their hands and asked if Brownstein, who recently became a licensed wedding officiant in California, would marry them. She said yes.

Man, it would be totally awesome to have Carrie Brownstein officiate your wedding!

Fred Armisen, not so much.

Fred Armisen, not so much.

What? I would divorce my wife and re-marry if I thought Fred Armisen would officiate the wedding.

To be clear, I would re-marry my wife, but still

Aw, that's nice. I just finished her book on the bus this morning. I recommend it and would have Carrie Brownstein officiate my wedding were I a getting-married type, which I am not.

('Licensed wedding officiant' isn't a term with much meaning in California. If you get ordained online--two clicks and a form--you can legally officiate weddings here. Still, super cool thing she did and what a great memory for that couple.)

I was reading this unloggedin and the ad at the bottom was for the Universal Life Church.

Oh, great, now EVERYBODY is going to want to get married at author events.

I've seen this before, guys. One person asks for a selfie with the author, and suddenly the next twenty people in line are pulling out their phones. Booksellers, prepare yourself for the waves of impulse authorial matrimony.

My request to have Clive Barker officiate at my human sacrifice was not as successful.

This is so very cool. Didn't think I could like Carrie Brownstein any more, but I was wrong.

Is it just me or does it seem like as soon as Carrie Brownstein agrees to marry them, Amy Poehler immediately starts looking for ways to make this moment all about the couple but still add to the experience?

I can't tell if that is what she is doing or if my intense desire to be her best friend is clouding my judgement.

Now I want Amy Poehler to play the first part of Greensleeves at my wedding. (Better find someone to marry)

By virtue of Sleater-Kinney, Brownstein is already the coolest person in the room.

I was thinking just today of how silly it was how much I like that the word "discourteously" is in Greensleeves. And then this came around. So that's all just very nice.

I'd renew my vows if Fred Armisen dressed up like Prince again.
