"Normally I wear protection, but then I thought, 'When am I gonna make it back to Haiti?' -- Bad Idea."
Just a taste from my favorite new web site.

Ah yes all the classic sketches are there, except the one of the best, The Arakawa Group:

"We would rike to apologize for saying all Americans are fat and razy. Some are fat...and some are razy. ahahahaha. Let's look at the monkey." [cut to monkey in a suit sitting at a table vomiting]

Only 2 Sprockets unfortunately.
Dieter: Karl Heinz, you are beautiful and angular…and if you were a gas, you’d be inert. How do you go about compiling all of these videos?

The Sinatra Group, how can you beat Sting as Billy Idol?
Frank Sinatra: You don't scare me. I've got chunks of guys like you in my stool!

and Celebrity Jeopardy with Sean Connery
Sean Connery: What's the difference between you and a mallard with a cold? One's a sick duck and I can't remember how it ends, but your mother's a whore. [ Laughs ]
Alex Trebek: Wonderful. Let's take a look at the categories. They are: Potent Potables, Point to your own head, Letters or Numbers, Will this hurt if you put it in your mouth, An album cover, Make any noise, and finally, Famous Muppet Frogs. I should add that the answer to every question in that category is Kermit

Seeing them all in one place brings home how much SNL these has descended to almost a parody of itself. Most of the recent sketches are just satirizing pop culture, poorly.

Can't people lay off the ever-popular SNL-not-as-good-anymore meme? It's just a workaday comedy program. That's what you do to survive 25+ years. They don't all have to be genius Sketches for the Ages.

This site is rather more complete in the recent seasons, mainly because that's what people have full tapes of. It's only begun to flesh out the classic years well enough in the last umpty months or so. And it's adding new stuff all the time, so check back. (Or add something yourself.)

If anyone spots the skit about the pharmacist who sees twin dwarves, gulps even more pills, and says "I can handle it!" please post it!

Sadly, the one sketch I've been looking for ages for isn't on the site - it featured Dana Carvey and Patrick Swayze as competing Latin pop stars, singing cattily about how they got "one ton of fan-mail...". The song then degenerates into accusing each other of stuffing trousers, and getting plastic surgery, etc... I would love to see that again :)

Scrib - if I find the tape with that episode, you'll get your write-up. "He stuffs his trousers... with a plastic penis..." That song has been stuck in my head for a surprising portion of my life.

Thanks to this posting, I got to find this skit from last fall with Dan Rather reporting on supposed anthrax outbreaks.

It's interesting to reread the events of this past year through Saturday Night Live scripts. I hope NBC keeps SNL on-air indefinitely, no matter how many people feel it necessary to criticize the show today. It always offers a unique perspective on current events, brings live music to us weekly, and gives us the chance to watch celebrities squirm on live television.

So, now that I'm mired in SNL's of past, who are your six favorite performers from SNL?
(Murray, Hartman, Ferrell, Murphy, Belushi, Sandler)
(And I hope you know which Belushi I refer to.)

That sounds more like a skit from the show "Fridays," ABC's knockoff of SNL, circa 1980. But I could be wrong.

Man... I can't seem to find the Dana Carvey "Chopping Broccoli" song. Am I missing it, or is it just not there?

um.. nevermind. Apparently it was in 86. I was off by about 3 years.

It goes in cycles. The current cast makes really funny political sketches (all the 2000 election stuff) but practically everything else falls flat. It's got to be the writing, because the talent level of the current cast is pretty good (especially after Molly Shannon left - ick).

Then of course there's SNL god Phil Hartman: "And you can send all the food you want.. [ grabs different items ] ..a McDLT, hot apple pie.. it's just gonna end up with.. [ puts it all in his mouth ] ..the warlords!"

You're right, it is a dead horse. I don't watch regularly but from what I've caught they have been improving recently.

When two of Latin America's biggest singing sensations have a feud, you're the winner!

He had an eyejob
I tell you man
He had an eyejob
We have the same druuuuuummer
He told me the stor-eeee

It was sung to the tune of Guantanamera which Wyclef Jean sampled a few years back. God, I really need to do a brain dump one of these days.
