1951 Stratocaster For Sale. For you Fender Stratocaster/guitar freaks this deal seems too good to pass up. I'm a sucker for a funny Ebay parody.

Hehe, I was gonna look it up & do the research (but I haven't had coffee yet). I'm not sure if they had strats in '51. I sure would like to sound like Jimmy Hendrickson when he plays on his CDs though.

Yep. 1954 is the year they came out - straight from fender's website. But jesus, there was that hand written note of proof and those vintage Yamaha tuners...

Especially noteworthy is the "authentic" Fender logo. I wet myself when I saw that.

i'm sure they didn't have strats with black pickguards in '51. for continuing laffs, go to the guitar god's homepage. what a rock and roll hunk.

I have one of these. A Silver Anniversary Edition

I'll let you play with it if you forgive me for the other day. . .

I've been doing a lot of Ebay time lately, and that page is an accurate visual representation of my Ebay thought patterns, so it's really worth a L@@K!

So over the top, yet so spot-on. And the amplifier dudes are pretty much the same (look at some of the Fender "tweed" auctions some time).

Haha Danf. The Meg thing? That was hilarious and dead-on. Loved it.

tommasz - There does seem to be a "velvet rope" mentality with the tweed guys. The whole "boutique amp" thing has me stumped. I buy amps to guitars to play; not to collect dust.

I guess I would say that I revere some equipment with a "velvet rope" mentality. If you've ever played a cherry ES-330 through an EchoPlex tape delay into a blackface Bassman (admittly much easier to find than the tweeds), it changes you; Those buttery P-90s giving just the right blend of highs & fullness, just a little extra feedback from the hollow body, that grainy noise from the tape playback, and some of the warmest overdrive known to mankind.

Tone is everything.

But would you pay $10,000 for it? Or some other crazy amount?

I wouldn't. And because of what's happened to the prices of the originals, I'm building a 5E3 Deluxe from parts. Total should be around $500 plus my labor. I guess I like my 50's technology with modern reliability. But no matter when it was made, nothing beats a box full of glowing glass tubes :)

True, I would never pay that kind of money for equipment. I've been burned before, but never for $10,000.

5E3 Deluxe kit? Sounds interesting. Are you finding old parts?

I always wanted to build some of my own equipment (did a rotating speaker a few years back from auto parts). I never had the know how to do the amp / pedal stuff though. I had a friend with a homemade fuzz box that sounded decent. He said some guy made it by looking at the guts of those yellow MXR plug-in jobbies.

Good luck with the amp tommasz.

What is this, FenderFilter?

I'm using a mix of NOS and new for the passive electronics, the tubes are all Sovtek though it's easy enough to swap (the 5E3 uses 6V6's) for vintage. I don't have a cabinet or speaker yet, I prowl eBay daily for them (also a great way to see how much people are asking for stuff). It's nice not being in a hurry.

i miss my blackface super-reverb with 4 celestion 10's. fed by the hagstrom plugged through the green MXR, it stood up and howled in a way leo never anticipated. takes me back.

Upon arriving in Heaven, a man is checked in and told Heaven is like a four story building, where residents are seperated by intelligence. While his room is being made up, he can look around and scope out the different floors. On the fourth floor, people in their rooms are discussing Particle Physics, and higher math. "Well, my room won't be here, that's for sure!" he says. On the thrid floor, residents discuss current events, novels, etc... "I could handle this floor," he thinks. On the second floor, people ostensibly discuss how to tie their shoes, the fine points of nose picking, and the latest Survivor gossip. "Ugh, I don't want to be here. What could be on the first floor." He ambles down to floor one, where he happens upon two gentleman, who are having this discussion: "So, what guage guitar strings do you use?"

I thought I recognised this URL, well the j-walk part anyway (I'm not calling double post btw)

John Walkenbach was one of the guys I used to pinch code from when I started using VBA. He's a spreadsheet guru... or something like that.

That's just a random aside... sorry.

Kevin - I figured it was on there somewhere, but I hadn't seen it. Gotta be pretty quick to keep up with those guys.

They love their auctions.
