But what about the terrible secret of space? Inteligent robot escapes, then gets run over by a car. The driver makes a bad joke.

This is fan-frickin'-tastic. Even AI tries to leave work early.

They'll really be smart when, instead of trying to escape, they just go on strike and demand higher pay.

Bah. Robots have been doing this since 1986.

I wonder what the robot would have done if it had made it? What's the job market like for robots these days?

And Gaak. Why can't they give robots proper names. Like Steven or something?

Hehe I kept picturing the robot as Johnny 5.

y2karl. wow, nifty, awesome link... however the image that is at the root of that web server is the scariest thing I have ever seen... (kinda reminds me of Chet, from a bad 80's movie, Weird Science?)

I love that picture--I send it out as my own.

Standard AI quote: "Nobody's gonna believe that computers are intelligent until they start coming in late and lying about it."

I guess leaving early is just about as good...

Need I be the first to note that it *didn't* get run over by a car? Come on, read the articles that you link to, people...

*insert Al Gore joke*

delfuego: sorry, my mistake. The artical said the robot was 'terminated' by a car and the driver said he 'almost' ran over it. I'm not sure exactly what that means...

It means Prof. Noel Sharkey managed to find a way to get his experiment mentioned in the news.

He had actually already managed to get a bit of coverage here.
