21 songs plus ephemera. Boston's Mission of Burma is a most amazing band that has reunited after two decades and is about to hit the West Coast.

The West coast is luckier than they probably know.

I swear I always thought they were called "misson TO burma". Is this yet another trick the entire world is playing on me?

That is good news. I was under the impression when they did a special "reunited" show earlier this year out here that it was a one-time only thing, becuase Roger Miller's tinnitus was still so painful. Hope it goes okay for him and them out west.

darkpony, I feel your pain. It took me their whole chapter in "Our Band Could Be Your Life" to adjust.

I'd always known That's When I Reach for My Revolver but I didn't really discover Mission of Burma until I heard Graham Coxon's covers of Revolver and Fame & Fortune on The Golden D.

I'm still kicking myself for having missed the east coast Burma shows earlier this year, so here's to hoping that they decide to do a few more gigs after the west coast dates.

Speaking of reunited post-punk bands... at least I'll get the chance to see Wire this fall.

Mission of Burma got their name from a sign on a Burmese diplomatic building. And they rock.

Dear 'wankers', this is not a 'what kind of music do you like' thread. (I happen to be a Deadhead, and if I wanted to advertise that fact i would have posted on the 'what kind of music do you like' thread a few slots down.) This post was intended to highlight an extensive non-premium Salon article somewhat about Mission to Burma, but really more about what punk music means and what music means in general. It is a wonderful piece and I commend it to any stray visitors who might encounter this poor abused thread.

The reason for my posting is the historic nature of a seminal band reappearing after a twenty year hiatus. The MeFi "community's" puerile response to the coincidental appearance of a few music posts on a Friday means that Fat Buddha's lovely obituary to John B Spencer (a few threads ahead of this one) was totally ignored, and that's just sad.

If you're on the fence about the west coast shows, do yourself a favor and GO! Their New York shows were tighter than they've ever been.
