This is great ! Had to undo two times because I want to be friends with ALL the monsters !

Ha, my teen boy loved it. We made it through AND met secret monsters but didn't get invited to any picnics.

I died at the very end on my first playthrough, but I didn't even mind. Game of the year so far.

I did not meet all the secret monsters or do any picnics either. Dangit!
But I did make friends with all but one.

The gameplay strategy for this is exactly the kind of thing I would have wanted to do when I was about seven.

I loved this.

It took three tries but I got the picnic and secret ending. I'm so happy.

I got the picnic and the secret ending, but what's this?

Mystery Mons: mystery/mystery

I made it through on the first run through because I am very friendly with monsters. It all made complete sense to me. The end.

This is delightful! My needs were met so I don't need to worry about any picnics.

Loved it. Made a ton of friends, told three stories, met three mystery monsters. Will replay for picnics!

That was great! I was definitely glad they were in a row (rhymes with flow, i.e., an orderly line) rather than in a row (rhymes with chow, i.e., a noisy quarrel).

This is the best thing.

I was scared of monsters, but not any more.

I feel good about finding 17 out of 15 monsters, but I may need to replay to get to the picnic.

This was so much fun and just exactly the perfect thing to bring me back from the edge of the cliff that the last two days had me in.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Don’t play this on a phone because the links are too close together and you might attack or kill a monster on accident and that’s very sad.

I've only played twice and haven't gotten a picnic but I did make lots of friends.

This is so adorable and I've passed it onto some friends.

Made it to 15th monster and made a bad choice...

I read a lot of books with monsters in and a lot of books without monsters as well and I have to say this sentence would be just a top-shelf jam-packed beautiful sentence in a book of either sort:

The people who work on the boat don't know it's a shark.

Hi, thanks everyone for playing this (and enjoying this), and thank you, aniola, for posting it.

My niece and nephew helped design and make it (there's a short explanatory page here about it, which you might not have seen), and they're going to be pretty delighted to see so many people have played it (and loved it). Cheers!

some legitimate hard decisions like knowing i should apologize to the one monster for sticking my tongue out at his child but not being able to resist also sticking my tongue out at him and then they leave ):
so fun!!

Three times, still no picnic, and I'm sure it's because you have to do something other than talk to and be nice to the monsters, but I just can't help myself, because they're so damn cute! (Gonna set my kids to work on it. They'll figure it out.)
posted by martin q blank at 9:01 AM on May 1, 2020 [1 favorite]

Hint: Sometimes it's pretty clear what you're "supposed" to do with a monster, but talking to them can be enlightening. :)

(I think you have to befriend a certain number of monsters too.)
posted by brook horse at 9:11 AM on May 1, 2020 [1 favorite]

Hint: If you don't know Starbump you haven't really won yet. There is the end....and there is the secret end.

Super spoilerIf you really want to see all the possibilities see the HTML code. Play it a few times in a row and get to the picnic (make friends with all the monsters). The secret end involves catching the rainbow. My god it's fill of stars!

The HTML has some intriguing text that once you have beaten all the fifteen monsters in a row you go through a door and there's fifteen more monsters. once you've beaten 3 lots of 15 you get a special sword that you can throw and when it hits one it kills all of them. After that you go through the last door you come out in a beautiful world which is being destroyed by 20 monsters! But I can't make it work.

Did everyone get a turn in the bathroom? Was there enough soap? Paper towels or hand blower?
Let's all line up and sound off so we can have pictures and cake before getting back on the bus.
Thank all the parent volunteers before they leave. All aboard now. Whee! What a good day.
That was a good story.
