You may have seen the Newseum's collection of newspaper front page images from Sept. 12, 2001. Now you can view the front pages of over 119 newspapers from 23 countries, updated daily.

I found this very interesting - the fact that so many different angles of the attack were chosen for the front page. Before seeing this I would have imagined only two or three images being used on most papers worldwide.

I think it's been noted before but the TelevisionArchive.com also includes video segments of many U.S. and international broadcasts that day (and every day of the year - they have the Election 2000 debacle for example). It was very chilling to watch the CNN segment for their 9-9:30 timeslot that day - when the second plane hit on live TV. The reactions of the stunned broadcasters... it's easy to forget how the story evolved from an unexplainable explosion to a bomb to a plane and then a second plane into the morass of reports, propagandas, conspiracies that we know and love today. The difference in choosing to view this on my own time and of my own volition (and being able to rewind and repeat as I wanted) had quite a different timbre than seeing it paraded in front of me every five minutes which will probably be the case as the Big Day That Changed Everything (tm) approaches.

ao4047 - where is the election coverage archive located? The televisionarchive.org URL only links 9/11 coverage (which is fascinating.)

Oh, and in the Newseum archive, two stand out for me - the Hartford Courant is just gorgeous - it's probably the typeface, or the choice of photograph, but it is the most poignant of the set. The ProJo is more conventional but I like the placement of the front page editorial. It feels like a throwback to WWII, and I guess that was the point.

C-Span looks at several Sunday papers via Newseum. It's a fascinating show. If your an early riser check it out.

I may have mis-spoke (typed?) the election 2000 coverage is arvchives of different candidates and news sites - not TV archives.

OK...can anyone explain why the French newspaper ("Le Monde") doesn't have even ONE WORD about the WTC? It's the newspaper from September 12th, so I don't think it's a time zone issue. Any ideas???

Reggie - I guess it was a deadline problem. Le Monde's WTC coverage was on Thursday the 13th. I couldn't find a good scan of the front page (there's a crappy one halfway down this page) but this site has a text list of all the front page headlines in Le Monde from those few days.
The main headline Sept 13 was "America Attacked: The World Seized With Terror" and the now famous subhed was "We Are All Americans."
Amazing to see how all those feelings of global solidarity have vanished in just one year.

If you can catch the real-life version of this exhibit, I highly reccomend it. I heard the Newseum will be closed for some time or something, but I found it to be a pretty cool place - the video wall is neat.
