Pope forgives.

That's what he does.

And it wasn't the pope who forgave in this case (The pope forgave in 83) it was the Italian government.

Well the guy did do almost 20 years for an unsuccessful murder attempt. It's not like he got off lightly or anything. (Sure, a hundred years ago they'd have drawn & quartered him or something, but we live in enlightened times now, don't we?)

I mean sure, the Pope is the Pope, but he's also this guy, who happens to be still alive.

What talk show do you think Mr. Ali Agca will wind up on first, Larry King or Geraldo?

Considering he's going to a Turkish prison, I'm guessing neither. Ever. I've seen my spy movies and anti-drug propoganda. I know those foreign jail places are full of angry 6'5" men with shoulders wider than they are tall.

And those are the bitches!

True enough. Given that this was merely attempted murder, and he's fully owned up to his crime and turned to God, after his own fashion, he probably does deserve clemency ... even if he didn't have another prison sentence in his future.
