Cheer up

At some point in 2001 one of my favorite bands got it's own website and I didn't notice until just now. I mention this not because it's particularly mefi worthy just because I like it, but because I have four of their albums and they never fail to cheer me up when nothing else will. It's the steel drums I'm sure. Alas, doesn't look they will be playing near me anytime soon, but there are still many other steel drum bands out there and if this one isn't coming your way either you can probably find one that is.

Points for honesty, anyway.

And I will find the steelspice site helpful in my ongoing quest to stay out of the way of steel drum bands, which I hate with a passion that knows no bounds.

Lighten up, Luser.

I saw Bakra Bata several years ago at a festival here in my town in northwest Florida. They were great and tons of fun. I bought one of their CD's. If you like good music and beautiful, dark-skinned women dancing their asses off, go see them...except for luser.

Maybe luser would like Sabar Drumming more. If you can get over the fact that one of the best guys in the biz is named "Doudou", Djabote[amazon] is an absolutely stunning album. Let me tell you, when fifty drummers all hit at once, it makes a big sound.

wobh is right about steel drums being a good source for happy energy. One of my most treasured possessions is a large steel pan drum given to me by a good friend from Trinidad. I keep it at my front door. No one entering or leaving can resist trying to play it and just one tinkling strike can be enchanting. At the same time I can appreciate luser's hatred of it because the redundancy of the beat can also be excruciating. A little bit goes a long way.

I liked steel drums until I was forced to listen to them all day, every day during the summers I worked at Westlake Center!
And don't get me started on the *$#%#$ bagpiper!

I'll second (or third, I guess). I distinctly remember walking out of a show of a university percussion ensemble years ago, feeling like I'd just been kissed. Seriously, my heart was actually beating faster and I sortof started to tingle. I'd started the concert in a morose mood, too.

I guess it could have been a seizure or something, but I chalked it up to the music.
