Multi Genre Star Ship Comparison? "This site is intended to allow science fiction fans to get an impression of the true scale of their favorite science fiction spacecraft by being able to campare ships accross genres, as well as being able to compare them with contemporary objects with which they are probably familiar." Can't get Spoon's link to come up. But here are some others I found:

That site loads so slowly that he must be getting the images of those ships from a webserver somewhere in a galaxy far, far away.

I actually checked the Slashdot front page to see if had been linked to from there.

That looks like an amazingly cool site, I just wish it would load faster.

Well, for starters, somebody needs to teach him about image optimization. And I think it's served off a 14.4 connection.

The scifi fan in me thinks this is a cool idea but that it's screaming out for a zoomable Flash implementation.

Thanks piskycritter. Those are cool.

Ok, did anyone with IE (or could view draggable layers) have the urge to drag the ships aroung and make wooshing noises?

Ahem.
*I need to do some shopping at the local platic model/comic/hobby shop now*

I must admit that I immediately wanted a plotter to ink this thing up poster-size...

For all the work he's put into it, you'd think he'd know the difference between -10 and 1/10.

Yes, and I gave in to that urge. I skillfully piloted the Millenium Falcon all around the page.

This site gives me the urge to go read a bunch of Culture novels for the descriptions of ginormous interstellar artifacts.

If I weren't so lazy I'd make something like this in flash... imagine that, a use for flash... heh...

Let's hope that Metafilter doesn't disintegrate into another idiotic fanboy Star Wars vs. Star Trek starships flame fest. Both groups need to get out of their parents basement more often.

Not enough people have mentioned how freakin' rad this site is.

What's wrong with parent's basements? Sometimes I think some people need to get into their parent's basement.

This site gives me the urge to go read a bunch of Culture novels for the descriptions of ginormous interstellar artifacts.

It gave me the urge to see if me or some of my comrades in arms might be up on the net, but it looks like Chris Lynas's renderings of ROU's have been taken down. But there are some cool renderings of little Clear Air Turbulence and a shot or two of bits of GSV at Grey Area.

The site is way cool, but it would have been cool to see some at least half-assed renderings of stuff from books too: Culture ships, a Xeelee nightwing, a Heechee 5, Lying Bastard and Hot Needle of Inquiry, a nice big Orbital, and behind everything, Ringworld. Oh, and Michael from Footfall.

Guardships. Wake me when someone has a picture of a guardship.

Wow. That is pretty cool. And I'm not even much of a space/science fiction geek. More like this please.

mark13: Yeah, totally, dood. 'Cause like, a Babylon 5 vs. Blakes 7 flamewar would blow a Star Trek vs Star Wars flamewar out of the water! Like, the Trek guys would get all confused 'cause the Federation are the bad guys on B7, and then a couple of those huge Minbari war cruisers would like vapourise the Death Star. That would be soo cool.

why is the EPVI death star so much bigger than the 1st one. If they can both blow up planets surely it would be more effective to have lots of smaller ones instead of one big one? No wonder they got beaten by a bunch of singing dwarf bears....amateurs

Wow. I always thought the Jawas' sandcrawler was one hell of a lot bigger than that, at least five times larger.

Darth Vader's Super Star Destroyer is lovingly rendered. It made me wish that there were top/bottom and bow/stern views as well as starboard ones, but you can't have everything, I guess.
