Scientists have finally come up with a good use for old people.
Hey. We can salvage this. Other uses for old people.

The image in that very first link looks like a throwback to an old Tales from the Darkside episode, where someone built a machine that would keep things quiet for him.
Of course, the machine started going after anyone who'd make noise, silencing and killing them.
