product packaging collages

Box-Bots are robot-like collages made only from product packaging and labels. My favorite: Strawberry Pop Tarts.

If I just type "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" would that sound like a squeal of joy? That was really cool ico.

I remember making really bad versions of these as a child. We'd take cereal boxes and make robots out of them. Cheerios for the body, grapenuts for the head, and so forth. It was fun. thanks for the reminder.

Bah. I won't be appeased until I can see them fight each other. The only question is will Polacolor 59 fight alongside Kodak Max 400, or turn on him to join forces with the nefarious Steinlager?

Strawberry Pop Tarts.

Does this bring Christina Aguilera to anyone else's mind?

I also used to do this a lot as a kid.

Well, no. I just used the knees from one Land O Lakes Indian woman to make it seem that another was holding her bare breasts together seductively like a stripper, but it's not so far removed.

Anyway, very cool site.

OK.

I couldn't wait until they were empty. Now I have a kitchen filled with stuff that needs boxes. Thanks.

Strangely No One Would Dare Challange The Preparation H Bot?

In college, I once took a bunch of Pepsi cartons I had lying around and turned them into two man-shaped creatures, one of which was six feet high and kinda scary looking.

We were tempted to take it out to a large field in the middle of the campus and set them on fire in a The Wicker Man style, but, alas, our laziness got the best of us.

(however, the big one did have a little inset on its chest with a little cardboard figure of Officer Howie inside)

Wow. How did I miss this post earlier? I'm impressed....

Now if we could only have Mrs. Butterworth in a box so we could make a Mefi-Bot (butter-bot?).

I really love these guys!

So did he actually make them? Just seems like photoshopped bits of packaging to me.

Does it really matter? This is a guy who takes a picture of himself every day. Either possibility (scanning in packages and then photoshopping them into robots, or taking the time to perfectly cut up box packages) seems equally likely.

I assumed that they were real because of his comment about reusing waste materials, agregoli, but I emailed Jonathan with your question, and he assured me that they are real - painstakingly cut out and taped together. He's making another batch of boxbots, entirely photoshopped this time - I can't wait to see what he comes up with, as I really love these. I'd also love to see how he displays them in the real world - are they framed and hanging on the wall, taped to pages in a book, tacked to the side of a barn...what?

He also mentioned that he particularly like your comment, gary ;)

Bragadoccio, please share your bots! Now's the time to invest in some tupperware.
