Goatees are about laziness. I tried growing a full beard for a while, but it just gets itchy and scraggly. I don't even "shave" really, so much. Just a quick scrape on either side of the face, no shaving cream or whatever Real Men with Close Shaves use, and I'm good to go.
Lazy, lazy, lazy. This is the key to pretty much any puzzling (or non-puzzling, really) phenomenom - laziness, or stupidity.
