Sorry, Weird Al is great, but he's no Spike Jones.

Wasn't there a WWII battle simulation called "Der Fuhrer's Face"?

Brilliant! It's about time Al got a video game. Screw Stern, Al's my King of All Media.

As parodists go, Tom Lehrer was the best; he could mock any song genre with amazing purity. Weird Al's great, but once people forget about the individual songs he parodied, they'll forget about him, too.

So has anyone played the game?

I just got home from work, and am in the process of downloading it. I let everyone know what I think.

Forgot to post last night, was deep in the dregs of "Must Get Sleep!" chants when I finally stopped playing.

That, BTW, is a Good Review. It was amusing. Definetely only worth the download (Adventure certainly wasn't 42 megs!) if you're on cable dsl or better, but quite entertaining.

It's obviously still in beta 'cause there were errors that cropped up here and there, including one that prevented me from playing the first time round. When I restarted the game to send the error message to the developer (help beta software - report bugs!) it worked fine.

I played it. Didn't like it. Great music naturally. Nice use of Weird Al's work. After the first five minutes or so it immediately starts getting boring. I'd have to map it. Always hated those kinda games unless what you were mapping is breathtaking to experience (The first time I ever played Myst comes to mind there.) Here the visuals are limited to jokes and they're few and far between. Climbing out of toilets is funny, but it's been there done that kinda funny.

If I had more time to figure out the puzzles... well no. It's the old "find a key and open a door to a house and nothing remarkable happens" and then there's no competing with the 'monsters' they just run over you and you're dead. Okay graphics. Great music. Poor gameplay. Zero interesting story.

I think I enjoy it mostly for the nostalgia factor, and definetely for the Weird Al factor.

I used to love Adventure, which helps. I also used to love mapping out text games, MUDs, dungeons in old games.

For some reason, having to physically hunker down and draw a map - even if it just circles and lines, or double-dashes on graph paper - is an almost ceaseless amount of entertainment for me.
