Clooney gets conned Kaycee'd and is being sued. "THE ACTOR opened his heart last year when a woman told him about her tragic, cancer-stricken daughter, Cindy, and he began making calls and sending gifts to the terminally-ill young woman. Before long, however, Clooney began to doubt that 'Cindy' really existed."

The lesson is clear. Donate only to charitable organisations you can trust, like the James Robert Foundation for Correction of Terminal Sobriety.

Yeah, nothing cracks me up like seeing someone's good intentions taken advantage of. Sucker.

That someone could take advantage of an established medical professional like Dr. Ross absolutely sickens me when he could have been helping other patients.

In the future, George Clooney will be cast as Lenny in Of Mice and Men
The book that brought back Oprah's miniseries club!

I am confused about what happened, however...

For the benefit of those that don't know who Kaycee is, there is a FAQ.

Of all the internet bandits, this one hits me most.. the pretending to have a sick sibling or child.

I mean, most are money schemes of varrying degree, but this.. you need to talk to people and pretend to be the sick dying child.

And for what? What do they want? Is it a joke for them? It's one ting to dress as a woman and pick up guys, but, c'mon!

Is it a pathelogical thing, or just sorry, sorry people?

Ooops.. I missed something there.. "to dress as a woman, and pick up guys online".

I wouldn't, of course, want to say that men that dress as women are doing something wrong. Just trying to portray the online duping of people thing...

Heh. I love it when stories I edited for work become links on Metafilter.

Well in this case the motive was clear... the lady got to talk to George Clooney.

(Hell, Bobby Brady did the same thing, and he got to meet Joe Namath.)

And for what? What do they want?

Well, duh.

Free stuff. That's what they want.

hehe, gotta love the way he smoked her out: ‘Great news. I’m getting a private plane and Brad Pitt and Matt Damon and I are all coming to see you.’

She's sueing him for wrongful death of her (imaginary) sister? Is this even going to a real court?

I find the wrongful death lawsuit just mind-boggling. Are there any attorneys present who can comment on the ethics of accepting such a case?

Are attorneys ethically or legally bound to the clients wishes, if the client wants to do something this stupid?

more in the mirror.. Only 'legal' related comments there sound like a plug for his new film:
He can see the irony in having to defend himself against a meritless lawsuit because he plays a slick lawyer in his new film, a romantic comedy called Intolerable Cruelty, which also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as a wealthy divorcee out for revenge against him.

mosch, I find this wrongful death of imaginary person just crazy, I wonder if she's even filed anything.. Can she when nobody has died?

(maybe it is just an interesting way to get some publicity... Using the succesful ingredients from the Kaycee case. Don't you think?)
