Somehow, this makes me nostalgic for the early days of the web, when everything looked like his sample sites. Don't miss his animation demo

You caught me!
Hey, just wait till Ugo learns flash. I see great things ahead. Oh, and for those who are scratching their heads saying, "yeah, but where's the 'under construction' sign?" here it is. Ugo left no stone unturned.

Wow! I'm calling him today. I just want the waving american flags and maybe an eagle or two with flapping wings.

His counter just reset to 50 for my last visit, do you think that maybe the code behind it is a little flaky.

Why do we all keep going back though!
I have since set the site as my homepage and now have this :

tiled as my desktop. I tell you the man has something..

He has a cool name though, at first I thought it was some kind of playoff situation, like, for example, Run DMC V. Jason Nevins.

I still stand by the aesthetic precedents set by Webtek. (Warning: Geocities.) Their poetry, oh, their poetry.
posted by brownpau at 6:23 AM on November 19, 2003

well, I was going to say that this was a worse web design company, but they seem to have ditched their old site and replaced it with an all signing, all dancing, all annoying flash version. Hohum.

There are a great many badly designed sites out there, some even by 'designers'. What is it that makes Ugo worthy of being singled out for our amusement?
posted by cedar at 9:40 AM on November 19, 2003

IANA developer, but I guess it's just the sheer bog-awful lack of professionalism. e.g. - follow the 'photography' link, enter the 'portfolio', then, (as there's nothing there), click the 'return' link.
I mean, this is a person who didn't get past page 1 of HTML For Dummies, ain't it? Now that's all well and good, but he's selling his services and putting real developers out of work. Caveat emptor I suppose, but a Web Master like this deserves scorn.

Between this thread and the other about stupid things clients say it's like the good old days around here.

I don't even know where to start. I saw it, and I knew instantly that it must be shared. It's a masterpiece.

I would put $100 of cold, harsh cash on the wager that Ugo has never put a single "real developer" out of work.

"I was just about to land the re-design of the FedEx.com account. That is, until they got a call from one mister Ugo V. Re."

Somehow, I'm not feeling threatened :)

I think the guys amusing but I have a fundamental problem with mocking people who are, a) not public figures or in the news and b) have no means of responding. I think it's a cheap shot to drag someones work through the mud, regardless of how gut wrenchingly bad it may be.

Now if I only knew what the hell that thing flying out of the mailbox was... I'm going to dream about this, I know it.

Oh my god. The director of the Bloomfield Mandolin Orchestra was my guitar teacher in middle school. Nice guy. I thought he was dead for some reason.

I'd give them a nicer website for free, but I really don't want to go over Ugo's helmet.

Hello. He's advertising his design skills over the internet, which can be accessed throughout the world. These aren't some scraps in his secret diary. It's about as public as public gets. And as pointed out above, he can respond as well as anyone replying here.

Anyway, I don't think anyone is mocking him so much as observing the irony of a self proclaimed Web Master offering his services as a web designer with these circa 1995 style web designs. Who knows, maybe this FPP will lead to him getting some work.

Well, ok, that was going too far.

Okay...

I won't pursue this any further. I'd just like to see us setting our sights a little higher than some kid with his first copy of Dreamweaver... there is so much to make fun of and so little time.

Priorities, priorities.

Matt makes exemptions for access to people relevant to the thread.

Also, I am personally a great believer that talking about people behind their back is generally much more polite than saying it to their faces.

Notice how everything after "I won't pursue this any further" negates that statement?

Just saying.
