Jackson's explicit letters seized

Rubba rubba. Michael Jackson's accuser, 12-year-old Los Angeles cancer survivor Gavin Arvizo, told police Jacko's pet name for him was Rubba, "because one of the games they used to play was called rubba rubba." Police seized many letters, poems, videotapes, and computer files from the Jackson's home and two other locations. The letters are very explicit and appear to be love letters from Michael to the boy. Jackson's legal team is said to be encouraging him to consider a plea bargain.

Good job posting something we all read on major news sites a few days ago.

Outstanding work.

Top notch.

xmutex, I don't usually reply to anyone with a MiFi ID over 10,000, but you have really pissed me off, considering I was posting here back when you were playing Pokemon. You and many other 'filterites seem more concerned about whether or not something is "newsfilter" or a good FPP then actually talking and thinking about anything.

We used to say something was PC -- Politically Correct -- but now I think we can start using the term MFC -- Metafilterly-correct.

I don't think there is really anything to "think" about this.

It's just another new blue page where we can make child-toucher jokes about a pretty disturbed pop-star and discuss hearsay and "experts'" opinions on these rumors they hear.

I feel bad for Michael Jackson.
Not because I think he's necessarily innocent or guilty but because it's obvious even beyond these claims that the guy is on his last string.
I wonder if anyone ever told him "Michael. You are crazy. Stop destroying your body, stop being a child and grow up. I will help you."

I don't think anyone ever has.

The only thing lately I've read about the whole MJ thing that I found to be remotely interesting is this piece here by the morning news. It's the only truely humane reaction i've seen about this whole mess.

Errr yeah, you're right, we should go about discussing the important and poignant issue of Michael Jackson molesting kids.

My bad.

Back to Pokemon.

Lots of us had humane (and worried) reactions the first time this shit came out (when he paid the kid off); now it's just disgusting. Fool me once, shame on you--fool me twice (or more)....

We all grew up with him--from the Jackson 5 days to Off the Wall (THE sweet 16 party album the year everyone in my grade turned 16) to Thriller to.........freakishness and molesting young boys. It's sick and sad--I'd like to see him put in a mental hospital where he could maybe be helped.

Can you not hear the well-oiled machinery of the Great American Media Circus grinding to life over this story, just as it did over OJ, Arnold, Kobe, etc? Don't you see how mechanical it all it?

Can you not for once just step aside and let all the rumormongering, dark fantasy, finger-pointing, head-shaking, and manufactured tragedy of Yet Another Ugly Moment in American Culture pass you by?

No?

Well, failing that, do you really have to post to MetaFilter for every single lascivious detail that's made public in the course of this media circus?

Please retire to your nest, take your low user number and rubba yourself with it.

jeez, scarabic, how insightful. i was just going to say the same thing about the innumerably mindnumbing bush/cheney/rumsfeld/etc. posts... then again, it's your party. carry on.

mcsweet, you should never take candy from strangers, and don't ever believe anyone who says your ma told them to pick you up from school, or that they want directions and you have to get into the car because they can't hear you, or that they have llamas or a whole amusement park or the elephant man's skeleton at their house--mmkay? ; >

dude!!! don't even joke like that because I was really kidnapped once!

no, I really was! I was like 12 or 13 at the time and at some whack christian getaway called "SuperWow*" or something like that, and the group I was with was standing outside of the van and I kinda wandered off for a bit and these three dudes came up to me and took me by the shoulders and lead me off saying, "come on this way COME ON." so they shut me in their van and they were about to leave when they got caught in the traffic congestion and actually tried to make small talk with me. a minute or two after that the youth director slid the door open with a slam and yanked me out and started cussing out my captors.

but anyways! I hope you aren't suggesting I'm a child because I'm a MAN BABY YEAH!

* make no mistake though, I've since abandoned the fold to become a fundamentalist sweetist.

He's a pedo. No big surprise there

Its the November sweeps

The media is as guilty of exploiting this boy as MJ

BTW, notice how B. Spears releases her albums during the sweeps so that the media can get their kiddie porn rating bumps.

If MJ's going to jail, are they really any better?

was there some reason that had to be a 700 x 500 87K+ image? was it because you are not spending your own bandwidth, but instead you are spending thesmokinggun.com's bandwidth? how did this entertain or inform us?

I expect that this will ultimately lead to Michael Jackson committing suicide. Unless he is remarkably well-insulated from the real world, the amount of hatred that will be directed toward him will be unbearable... whether or not he's actually guilty.
