If ever you're in London, I highly recommend a visit. It has a tendency to be overshadowed by some of London's bigger and more famous museums (British, V & A, Science, Natural History), but the Museum of London has some fascinating content and well designed exhibits.

This has, in fact, inspired me to visit the nearest museum as hastily as possible. The photograph galleries are excellent. Thanks, plep.

OK, now I regret missing the museum last time I was in London.

Two good Victorian London links: Monuments and Dust (University of Virginia) and Dictionary of Victorian London.

The Museum of London is one of the best in the city, IMHO, and is, as normy says, often overshadowed by bigger 'names' (maybe also because the MoL is located in the 'square mile' financial district, some distance away from the really famous museums). On the other hand, this means it's a bit less crowded, especially on weekends when the City is deserted. It's also near interesting but oft-overlooked architectures, such as the City of London churches. The MoL is also notable for being the world's largest museum that is devoted to a single city.

I visited the Museum of London several years ago, but I still have quite vivid memories of it. It was a favorite of mine.

Another memorable experience for me was the Britain at War Experience, which focuses on the Blitz. I was particularly interested because it focused on everyday life -- and seemed to offer a good sense of the mood of the day. I think that it has been changed/renovated since my visit, but the website gives me hope that what made it good remains.

I should probably have warned that there is some sound and animation on the page linked immediately above. Sorry about that.
