That is just far too cool for words. Thanks!

Not just a wooden Ferrari, but a wooden Ferrari boat. Amazing.

This is what happens when you have too much time on your hands.

I thought it was gonna be a link back to MetaFilter...

Only one way it'd look cooler: Redwood. (although probably Not Safe For California Forests)

Oh. My. God.

Your right, of course, Wendell, it should be red.

I think second growth redwood is farmed and harvested in northern California. My understanding is that they do not take long to grow to a harvestable size. Of course, if one allows them continued growth , they live to hundreds of years and will be 300' tall. /derail

Ah ... Venice.

Why do you think it's a photoshop? I can see someone with enough craftsman's ability putting that together easily.

Call me skeptical.

Ok, you're a monkey's uncle...

It's real, it's in Venice...and here's the home page of the craftsman who made it. ;)

i actually think making that would be an easier explanation than faking it in photoshop. there are many excellent woodworkers in the world, and while there are many people with photoshop out there, there are certainly fewer who would be able to manipulate at this quality, and even fewer at that range of ability who would spend their time faking a wooden ferrari boat.

Oh, and what have you been doing with YOUR time, wise guy? Feeding the world's hungry, perhaps?

I wish more people spent their time on bizarre crafts like this.

Believe it or not, I did some extended reading on that guy, Livio de Marchi, after either Weekly World News or the Sun (I forget which, but it was definitely one with an Armageddon cover story) published a little photo essay about a year ago on his carvings, notably featuring a photo of the hanging coat. He carves draped fabrics brilliantly.

I can't do it! It must be fake!

Cool link, pizzasub, thanks.

Apparently, Livio de Marchi has made other wooden cars.

Well I met Livio de Marchi. I was in his shop in Venice, he's a master at woodworking. Talked to him, beautiful person and bought some of his "minor" works (yes you can buy them).Want further proof ? Hop to Venice and visit his little shop, no need to invoke Occam Razor when you can invoke Go See Yourself Wiseass.

If you're in Las Vegas, there is a shop in the Venetian with several of his pieces.
