In a reworking of a classic story, City Councillors in Orange County were about to debate the pressing issue of Dihydrogen Monoxide before realising that the dangerous chemical was, in fact, water.

"It's embarrassing," said City Manager David J. Norman. "We had a paralegal who did bad research."

Blame it on the lowest paid person in the office, that's smart managing.
Nice that the Guardian is paying such close attention to news stories in California though. posted by fenriq at 3:40 PM on March 24, 2004

" `One moment,' the merchant said. `Because you haven't bargained with me I want to tell you something. Look here, he is a quonsar of course, and quonsars are no good, you know that don't you?'
`And you said he was an excellent quonsar.' The gentleman said indignantly.

I thought it was a great thread, especially for Dreamghost's post of that altered "Free Quonsar!" picture which had a youngish Richard Nixon doing a photo-op on the Capital Building steps. Tricky Dick was shaking hands (or claws? talons?) with a live turkey. It was charming.
But, everyone ran away from the thread when I started preaching about how nursing mothers flush, in their breast milk, PCB's, PAH's, and Dioxin into their infants. Or maybe it was that "parable of the no-good Quonsar"? posted by troutfishing at 9:14 PM on March 24, 2004
