Emmett Till's murder case has been reopened, nearly fifty years after the killers' acquittal. Don't I mean alleged killers? No, the cretins happily confessed all to a national newsweekly after their trial. A thousand details here, and a couple more in the subsequent letters to the editor, that will forever kill any nostalgia you might have for the "old days."

Yeah, right. Just like the South was doing a great job of desegregation and race relations before the Supreme Court had to ruin everything by butting in with the Brown ruling.
Yup, keep clinging to that old floater that says everything evil in the states comes from the south. There sure isn't any racism in the North, nosirree, nothing bad never happened up here. And if it did, well, we got the idea from the south. We'll just ignore the fact that something, something about the north is driving Afr. Americans back south by the millions in recent year, continuing to demonize the south instead of even thinking about the problems we as a nation still face with race.

I think the South still has extremely racist, more isolated areas, whereas the more backward areas of the North tend to be much less fearsome. But in the best areas of either side, it's about the same. posted by abcde at 8:57 PM on May 14, 2004
