The Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi now has a digital archive containing 10,000 images of medieval stained glass from English churches and cathedrals: a wonderful resource for anyone interested in medieval art. These stunning images of the windows at Fairford, in Gloucestershire, are just a tiny fraction of the extraordinary riches available on the site.

Wow. Great site. Shame that something that is explicitly part of the british national heritage can't be licensed under CC, though. Claiming copyright to things like that sucks.

The vitra project is doing some similar work, at very high resolution. I've seen the robot they've built in action at St. Sebaldus in Nuremberg, but so far it looks like none of their images are actually online yet. Shame.

These are great! I wish they were higher resolution, so I could use them as desktop pictures.

Hmmm - an interesting site I would never have found myself. What do you think this is, MetaFilter c. 1999?
