Indian Superman

Indian Superman is a movie of questionable legality released in India in the mid eighties. Perhaps it should have had a wider release since it has a great deal of humorous appeal for Western audiences. Check out this review from Stomp Tokyo. I'm looking forward to a crossover when Indian Superman meets Indian Spider-Man. via Sepia Mutiny

Interesting, not quite as big a ripoff as "Turkish Star Wars", where Turkish actors are spliced together with special effects from the actual Star Wars movie.

Please tell me that Superman does a plot-irrelevant lip sync and dance with two really hot indian girls.

I've seen this movie and it sucks beyond belief. It's not worth seeking out.

See also: 3 Dev Adam (Three Mighty Men), in which Turkish Captain America and Turkish Santo (think Lucha Libre) team up to take on Evil Turkish Spiderman. Oh, and then there's the infamous "Death by Guinea Pig" scene. Bollywood may well have a stranglehold on the bizarre superhero movie ripoff industry, but thanks to the Turks it isn't yet a monopoly.

I'm actually glad to see another country borrow and rework American (*was about to say "our"*) pop culutre and turn it into their own. It gives us all a weird feeling to see Superman doing the lip sync serenade in the upper octaves, and so it should. We've been exporting crap culture to the rest of the world for too long. It's high time someone perverted it for their own purposes.

Hooray for plagerism!

This Superman, namely the Indian Superman, is a stone cold rip-off of the 1978 Richard Donner film. It steals story elements, special effects footage, and even music from that far superior film.

Nothing warms the cockles like theft.

Why not? That's what we do. That's where all our culture comes from anyway.

That's exactly why it's worth seeking out.

I was being genuine, Miles Long, which I think means we agree. No? The alternative to reworking american pop culture would be to just replay it as-is, which is the norm in much of the world. India has the entertainment complex in place to strip stuff down and build it back up again. But other parts of the world aren't so lucky, and get nothing but BayWatch reruns ad infinitum.

Those Indians are crazy, I tell you!
