That would not have been so hilarious had he not kept going with the routine, still trying to swing his chucks as he falls over. I can't stop laughing, poor guy.
posted by banished at 11:23 AM on September 15, 2004

On the other hand... that cocky look he gives everyone before he does the flip is kind of inviting an accident. I'm still laughing.
posted by banished at 11:25 AM on September 15, 2004

HAHAHAHA, ohhhhhh maaaaaaaan, that was high-larious!

I love the cocky "Heh" he gives right before the backflip.

Then the best part is his face as he starts working the one nunchuck.

Ha, I almost posted this awhile back, but I couldn't think of how to put it into context. Guess it didn't need any.

The only thing comparable in the funny/tragic category is this clip from the Atlanta Grape Festival.

It is not fun at all to fall and get the wind knocked out of you.

But it is fun to watch it happen to someone else, definitely.

Okay, as long as we're posting videos of people hurting themselves...

The grape lady was probably just fine. If you've ever gotten the wind knocked out of you, you know it feels like you're dying. But 30 seconds later you're fine.
posted by jpoulos at 12:15 PM on September 15, 2004

The best part of the grape lady clip is at the end where they cut back to the station and the two haircuts are acting all fake-concerned.
posted by Turtles all the way down at 12:17 PM on September 15, 2004

The grape lady was fine. It's from several years ago, and I hear she's a weather girl in New England now. I was kind of horrified by it, but a friend explained that if you really couldn't breathe, you couldn't talk. She's freaking out and making weird noises mostly from shock, but she was fine moments later.
posted by mathowie at 12:21 PM on September 15, 2004

I feel bad about this, but I found this from dhoyt's link, and I think its funny, although technically it's a kid being hurt by his friends, not by himself. Audio NSFW, but the clip's pointless w/o the audio.
posted by putzface_dickman at 12:26 PM on September 15, 2004

That's a relief. I like a good pratfall as much as the next guy, but those noises she was making were just gutwrenching.
posted by ook at 12:27 PM on September 15, 2004

It's pretty awesome that he's still trying to show off his nunchuk skillz even when semi-conscious. It just proves: he's a mammal, he likes to fight all the time...

Sorry.

Grape Lady's sounds really are concerning, but Turtles is right - those "haircuts" (lol) back in the studio - their fake concern is genuinely hilarious.

I don't think he was still trying to bust tricks, I think he was just trying to keep balanced and the swinging nunchucks were a side effect.

robocop is bleeding said :[Family Guy] still has comic timing down to a science. My favorite example is when Peter, after finding the last golden scroll to visit his favorite brewery, runs home in a scene straight out of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. When he gets to his house, he trips and hurts his shin. What follows is a genius level of timing as Peter sits and nurses his shin ("ooohh.. shhhhh...ooohhh.. sssshhh"). He does it so long that its starts funny, gets old, then funny again, then old again, then (quoth Brian) "Hay-lare-ee-yes!"

The grape lady totally reminded me of that scene.

This has always left me speechless. Real/fake, I have no idea.

Thank you for the remix stifford.

It's fake. It was an ESPN commercial, if I remember correctly.

Can someone post a link to the security cam footage of the woman falling through the hole in the floor? I need to show a friend.
posted by jpoulos at 1:43 PM on September 15, 2004

No, he was totally trying to flip out ninja-style with the nunchukka even as he stumbled into the warm boiled-fur embrace of head (and face!) trauma.

What is amazing to me is that kid on the rock in the stream getting paint-balled doesn't fall in. The girly boy falsetto screaming is excellent. I kind of wish I had videos of me getting my ass kicked in grade school and screaming like a girly boy.

Umm...I didn't see any paint exploding on that kid. He was getting shot with a pellet gun. An even better way (as mom would say) to put your eye out.

That's totally funny, fish. I wonder if he got to meet any mutant ninja turtles down there. /thread re-rail.

Y'know what's funny? My dad used to tell me this story about a friend of his who was a commercial electrician. One day he was down inside a vault box hooking up some wires for streetlights in a new subdivision when Southern California Edison came out and energized the circuts, despite lockouts, warnings, and whatever. Apparently the poor bastard bounced around the inside of the vault for a good 15 minutes before the SCE idiots realized something was going wrong.

He suffered some pretty serious burns over 95% of his body, not to mention all the cool carbon tunnels that you get when you pass extremely high voltage and amperage through flesh. He got something like 15 million for his troubles, but needless to say, wasn't quite the same again. Even though he spent most of it on coke and strippers.

There's that video of the asshat up on the powerpole, raving loony, who then becomes a human lightening bolt. Massive flash of light, etc. Hella video.

I don't find accidents to be very funny, ie. woman falling down the trapdoor.

I do find asshats fucking it up to be funny, ie. nunchuck dude, fryguy, that video of some dumbass trying to jump over a speeding car. Self-selection is a wond'rous thing.

The mother of all cat-blooper videos

(Somewhat OT, but I figure they're a decent addition to the mix if you haven't already seen them...)
posted by dhoyt at 8:36 PM on September 15, 2004

fff, I tend to agree, re: accident v. asshat, but where do you classify the grape stomper video above? I mean, clearly, it's an accident, she's not doing anything inheirently self-selecting, yet I take complete unbridled amusement at her gaffe, probably because it wasn't all that serious (after all, it's not like she lost a limb or anything)?
posted by jonson at 10:15 PM on September 15, 2004

Ah, well, she chose to be up there and careless. She should have been well aware that being up five feet in a tippy bucket just might be something to approach with a little bit of caution.
posted by five fresh fish at 8:27 AM on September 16, 2004

fff, yes. This thread stopped being funny for me when the woman fell through the trapdoor -- I didn't think it would go down like that.
posted by rafter at 9:27 AM on September 16, 2004

Best part about the nunchuck video is that there are three distinct sounds as he falls: his feet, his hands, then his head.
posted by sharksandwich at 9:28 AM on September 16, 2004

Because when I'm about to fight someone with nunchucks, the best thing to do is to begin with a backflip...?
