Picture perfect!

A thousand pictures is worth a word.

MacOSaix is a Mac OSX program that lets you make those wacky photomosaics, using either images on disk, or Google image searches.

Not sure how these folks feel about it, but I think it's way cool.

i've always found that this (also here) little plugin for the gimp worked quite well.

Unfortunately MacOSaiX has a habit of crashing on Panther. Even more unfortunately I managed to lose the source code I used to create the current version of MacOSaiX. I had a fairly recent backup so I didn't lose everything. Rather than spending a lot of time trying to figure out what was lost I have been spending my time on the new version.

Wow. Oh wow.

If I may self link, I played with this once and created some Alyson Hannigan-goodness: http://www.westfieldnetwork.com/malcontents/2002/09/in_praise_of_macosaix.html

oops. lost the last half of that comment. Basically just that I found it VERY useful, especially the ability to get images via google image search. i thought that alone was a phenomenal feature.

Looks like the new 2.0 version doesn't have this yet, but it's too good to be left out, I'm sure, and hopefully it'll be back soon

Yeah it's cool.

I've got this great Dick Cheney head going now, using the following (admittedly reactionary) Googlesearch words:
death, war, nazi, hitler, iraq. dead, skull, bomb, hatred, money, evil, chicken, osama, usa, jesus, homeland, and so on...

I played with the old version a bit and had some fun with it. Good for birthday presents. It was very slow, and it had a habit of hanging my Machine. I've been looking forward to a new version.

2.0 sounds great. Too bad he lost his source code, though, and that the current dev version also crashes in Panther. Guess I'll need to wait a little while longer.

Am I the only one who thinks that the results just look like poorly-compressed JPEG files? I mean, JPEG compression does operate on a similar principle...
