The Big What?

An odd category for this DVD. I was searching for a favorite film of mine, The Hebrew Hammer, when I noticed that Overstock.com had filed it under the wrong category. This made me chuckle and I hope it makes you smile too. Happy two days before thanksgiving everyone!

Works for me. It much like me better.

One time I was flipping through the channels and "Live at the Knitting Factory" was categorized as "Sewing." Oh, if only.

Cute.

(But it is actually in the right category. Overstock is just searching the categories list for your search terms, as well as the products. If you search for "anything Hammer" you get the same result. They should put a dividing lines between the two sections of results.)

I was in a Blockbuster once that had "Jesus Christ Superstar" shelved in comedy and "The Odd Couple" shelved in drama.

For that and many other reasons, I don't step a foot into Blockbuster.

Terrible FPP, but man! The Hebrew Hammer! That's is a fucking hysterical movie. Not perfect, but still hysterical. Everyone should see it. I'm pleased it's on DVD. We saw it at a Jewish film festival and have a copy due to the illegal luck of knowing the guy who was holding onto the screener tape. Er, forget I said that.

I think it's totally unfair to discuss the Hebrew Hammer without also mentioning the dozens of Palestinian DVDs that have been mis-shelved on overstock.com.

Police say man with hammer attacked officers

August 31, 1999
Web posted at: 10:33 a.m. EDT (1433 GMT)

NEW YORK (CNN) -- There's new outrage over police conduct in New York after officers say they shot and killed a man -- described by his family as emotionally disturbed -- who attacked a sergeant with a hammer.

Monday night's shooting in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn -- a close-knit Orthodox Jewish neighborhood -- brought hundreds of protesters out onto the street. [...]

Very interesting. Around here cops shoot Black men who aren't shooting back several times a year; 2003's incident involved a guy who had his hands cuffed behind him but still (the two cops said) managed to scare them with a box cutter so bad they shot him 12 times from two feet away. It's getting so most people (this city is 70% white) seem willing to give the cops carte blache to shoot anybody for anything just so they never have to hear/see another news article about subsequent protests. But if the cops ever shot a Jew under questionable circumstances I think the reaction would be stunned disbelief -- people would check to see if the reporter meant "Black Hebrew" instead; the few hundred Jews we have here are suburban, centrist, solid citizens one almost never hears anything about, and I don't think there's an Orthodox or even Conservative shul within the old city limits. (We had a City/County merger recently that I'm still not used to.)

But anyway. I'm not sure what I mean by this post except to show Hlewagast that somebody paid attention.

By the way, maybe somebody will post to metatalk explaining how to do that "more inside" thing.

-------------Breaking in with this special News Report from I- Witness Snooze Team--------------------------

John, here at Overstock it is utter chaos. I have never seen anything like it! They've stocked the "Hebrew Hammer" in with the hammer dept, "Tales of the Taliban" in the deodorant section and "After the Rapture" in the Eminem section. There are unconfirmed rumors that there is Uranium in with the Geraniums, in which case we are very, very scared. Back to you, John.
