The idea that someone invested time to create that fills me with despair for mankind. Thanks for the link!

There are 4 "stages" in the first game, which means you have a 1/16 chance of winning.

That second game is pretty fiendish.
posted by neckro23 at 3:09 PM on November 23, 2004

And the second link is not a "new concept puzzle game", it's exactly the same as Denki Blocks.
posted by Pretty_Generic at 3:09 PM on November 23, 2004

Actually, no, it isn't.

The game I posted has crabs, not blocks. Similar idea though.

I probably enjoyed that a little too much.

On preview:
The game I posted has crabs
It should have that looked at by a professional.

This game is just like life... You make a series of arbitrary choices without knowing all the details and based on the results of that you survive or perish!
posted by idontlikewords at 3:27 PM on November 23, 2004

Although, why is there not a way for me to buy my way out of having to make these choices. That would perhaps add to the realism.
posted by idontlikewords at 3:28 PM on November 23, 2004

Hahaha

Love it, the music is perfect

Just in case anyone wants a translation of the text at the end of the first game it says: "Congratulations!" What a surprise, ne?

I almost didn't not win

elwoodwiles: Nah, you can get the cure over-the-counter, dude.

I got 2 stages of the crab game so far... the first thing doesn't get me past the hammers. which i guess is the point...

second game started hurting my brain at about stage 3. DAMN YOU LAVA!

Actually, I think I was wrong, those might be lobsters. No cure for those, that I know of.

I love this. So stupid, it's hilarious. I especially like the long-tonguéd chameleon.

Pants-lobsters are God's way of saying you've led an unclean life and have sinned. Suffer. Oh, and would you pass me the melted butter and that mallet over there?

I'm just getting to my mindlessly witty non-sequitors before the line to use them gets too long...

And this is at LEAST my 25'th comment.....

Thanks for the welcome, tho...

There are 4 "stages" in the first game, which means you have a 1/16 chance of winning.

Since you have a 1-in-2 chance of choosing the right path in each of the four stages, I actually think you have a 1/(2x4) chance of winning, that is 1/8.
posted by klazmataz at 4:39 PM on November 23, 2004

You think that, klazmataz, but you're wrong. You have a (1/2)**4 chance of winning, that is, 1/16.

OMG FARKIN FINALLY! I get to the end of the no-skill game. OK now I can die in peace.

As soon as I get all the lobsters home.

(1/2)**4 = (1/2)^4?

The caret is the more usual notation; at least, that's the one my TI-89 takes.

(btw, first post; yipee!)

No, Balisong, the penalty for self-taglining is that you have to return to your first comment and start over. You must find a way to work in each of your 25 comments in new threads, in the order they originally appeared, before you're allowed to make a new unique comment. I know, I know, it's harsh, but if you can't do the time, then don't do the crime.

I was kind of hoping the point of the first game was just to frustrate you, end that you would never make it past the second bit. I was laughing at the idea.

Actually, there is a commercial board game that involves absolutely NO skill: Chutes and Ladders. Winning is 100% based on luck (dice-rolling) - at least for those without telekenetic abilities.

The game is good for (a) teaching young kids to count (as Hasbro's web page points out) and (b) something that adults and 4-to-5 year olds can play where no one has an advantage (as in, adults don't have to deliberately lose in order to keep things interesting). On the other hand, there is the "no matter what you do, you're not in control" aspect.
posted by WestCoaster at 11:55 AM on November 24, 2004

Other children's games of no skill are "War" and Candyland. I guess in Candyland, you can choose to take the shortcuts or not if you land on them.

Why do children love these games? I can't feign interest in one of them for longer than a few minutes.
posted by sonofsamiam at 12:12 PM on November 24, 2004

Same reason people love gambling.

Oh and in case you were wondering, Christians can play Chutes and Ladders. Phew.
