Sometimes you steal the goat, sometimes you hack the game. But you know you've accomplished something when you get the fans to heckle themselves. [last link QT video]

I like how they conveniently fail to point out that they lost the game 35-3. Thats right. 35-3. Who sucks exactly?

As the Harvard Crimson commented:

Yale is clearly falling behind. Like a wounded dog pulled behind the ancient Stoics’ proverbial wagon, Yale limps towards the inevitable gnashing its teeth in a desperate and futile attempt to change its fate. But no matter how much Yalies bark and howl about Harvard’s tailgates—which, despite the Boston Police Department’s best efforts, had enough sauce to warm undergraduate revelers all morning and afternoon—or their supposedly superior—read: sweaty and pathetic—social life or their New Haven bunker mentality that they confuse with school spirit, they are still tugged farther and farther down the path of failure with their little buddy Princeton.

Yeah, but "We suck". Hehehe. I like stories.

I can't decide whether what the MIT students did or what the Yale students did was more awesome. The MIT one required careful planning, and lots of law bending work. The Yale prank required social engineering and has the same feel as if you convinced someone to punch themselves in the face.

Maybe Metafilter should start a rivalry like this with someother web thingee?

Yes, but the real action was the belligerence at the tailgate. And it was pretty easy to see who sucks at having fun on that side of the fence!

At Penn, everyone throws pieces of toast onto the field after the third quarter. Last year, when we went to Harvard, we got a delay of game penalty for toast throwing.

"In 120 match-ups since 1875, Yale holds the lead with 64 wins compared to Harvard's 48, with 8 ties." Ha! :P

And an account of the "You Suck" stunt is blogged here.

It wasn't until the end that I found out that it was Yale pulling the prank. I saw the t-shirts and thought they were legit members of Harvards prep squad.

It was so much cooler that way. Self depricating humor is more funny than two shit football teams fighting to suck less than the other.

I mean... at the end of the day, don't both teams suck [at football]? I mean... they're both really bad on any kind of national scale. Having a rivalry between the two seems kind of a waste of time. Good prank, though.

That was just beautiful...brought tears to my eyes. It isn't important who won the football game, unless you care about sports or something. ;)

My library is right next to the Harvard stadium and every year I get to see the hordes of Yalies mill about like locusts.

And as for the MIT hack, getting into the stadium is seriously not very hard. You can pretty much just walk in during the day. Laying all that wire, on the other hand....

Beginning in 2004, parents of families with incomes of less than $40,000 no longer will be asked to contribute to the cost of their child's education at Harvard. In addition, Harvard also is reducing substantially the expected parental contributions of families with incomes between $40,000 and $60,000. Taken together, we hope to brighten the prospects of a Harvard education for many who otherwise might have imagined it unaffordable.
Harvard may suck, but my kids have a chance to go there. Now I just have to teach them to play football really, really badly!

Ugh, so because I have a moderately low family income in a reasonably sized city (that just happens to be slightly higher than $60K) I have to pay full price to send my non-existent kid to Harvard? Whereas when my family was in a smaller town (Knoxville) with a smaller, although relatively comparable, income (despite the jobs being basically the same) I could send my non-existent kid to Harvard on a "substantially reduced" tuition?

That sucks.

Hope non-existent junior can be satisfied with the University System of Georgia.

With that kind of tuition plan, the Harvard student population will become the perfect mirror of American society: rich, poor and no one left in between! Cheers!

Love the stunt(s). Don't care much for the score (read that as you like ;-) but it is, admittedly, sometimes fun to get behind one's team.

No. Very few people would pay full tuition at Harvard (or any other Ivy or similar-caliber school), before or after the recent change. The link says that they're reducing the expected contributions of families making 40--60K *below what they had been*, not that only families making less than $60K can get aid.

This is the first I even heard of this - the campus was so empty all week, I didn't go out much. Would have been more amusing if Yale hadn't been trounced again. (I don't know what the long record is, but the recent one is not good. But then again, my roommate went to Notre Dame; maybe I'm becoming a football snob by osmosis (and without even knowing the rules. Go Jays!)
