Josh Fruhlinger: he reads the comics so you don't have to. Makes Mary Worth fun again!

This is good, though the tagline is stolen from Baltimore City Paper's venerable Funny Paper feature, which it appears they're not doing anymore. God, those guys could take apart the comics. But this augurs well, and the index-by-comic aspect is especially cool.

First appearance of Turt-Lor in "Mark Trail." [This is good stuff.]

Excellent! If only the RSS feed were full text and included the comics themselves.

I like it- now I finally have someone to complain about For Better or Worse (my favorite cartoon) with. Like when April told her mother to fire the evil stockgirl, but Mom didn't listen! Or when it was suggested that Michael's wife got pregnant on purpose, and then they never mentioned that again!

oh, right, I'm still in Metafilter. ::embarassed grin::

GXXXKK!! is an awesome sound effect. Zits is the only comic that seems to have any relation to what teens are like in this century. Sometimes it's so on target that I think that the author has been following my son around taking notes.

I saw this linked to on Bookslut a week ago or so, and was planning on making it a post but you beat me to it. Josh's commentaries are great - both when he's skewering cartoons that make no sense at all (and there are plenty of these!), or when he's appreciating the cartoons that he likes.

I wish there was more content, though, and I wish he did some Foxtrot.

I'm pretty sure that's where I first saw it too, but I couldn't remember, so no "via".

Yeah, I saw it there too, but could've sworn I'd seen it here... ah, well. Excellent stuff. I wish I did that.

Good content, not a bad design too.

i am unfamiliar with 'Pearls Before Swine' but i agree with his assessment of the bold and necessary choice the artist made to pull out of the nonproliferation agreement and send covert agents to overthrow cathy.

This will make a fine companion to my daily read of WebSnark

One of my favorite observations:

Why does Garfield put his paw up to his mouth as if to shout out his thought baloon punchline at John?

Closely followed by:

Why does he hate mondays when he does not have a job?

This is great. : )

I want him to add Mallard Fillmore.

Excellent. I'm adding it to my bookmarks.

Dammit, I wanted to post this link, but Metafilter says I don't comment enough to warrant posting rights. Which is fair, I suppose. But pooh anyway.

Wouldn't the use of the word "again" imply that Mary Worth was ever fun before?

"It’s also been noted that Funny Paper’s motto was “We read the comics so you don’t have to.” I swear that I did not rip my site’s title off of this. In fact, I ripped it off from “Dog Bites,” a column by Laurel Wellman that ran in the San Francisco Weekly in the late 1990s. Wellman used to tease/mock San Francisco Chronice columnist Jon Carroll by offering one-sentence summaries of his work under the heading “We read Jon Carroll so you don’t have to.”

It's good, if only because I can't read the comics page anymore because it makes my IQ drop 150 points every time I look at it. So I'm glad he's highlighting some good ones, like that Pearls Before Swine that brings out some sweet justice.

Really, though, when did the entire comics section become Ziggy?

Actually the best rendering of Mary Worth I've experienced was when the punk kids at the back of the cafe I used to go to decided to dramatically re-enact the morning's strip.

But this is a close second.

"For Better or For Worse" is regularly taken apart at both FitzieChicks and "For Better or For Worse Strikes Back," as well as in the Fametracker forums. For a FBOFW addict like me, there is no end.
