Insecure Weatherman vs. Confident Weatherman (Windows media)

I feel so bad for #1. I love putting myself in embarrassing situations, but nearly squirm out of my seat when others are placed in such positions.

WHO WROTE IT!?

Holy hell that first one is a pisser! I don't know who was worse, the weather dude or the producer who just didn't have enough sense to cut to commercial. Of course, maybe he couldn't resist this comedic gem unfolding before him.

...."the barometer - is growing"!! great stuff

Looks like his confidence caught up to him.

I like how you can hear the first guy panting into his microphone.

No commercials on public television.

This appears to be WOUB, in Athens, Ohio. My brother worked there when he was in college...

#1 doesn't look real to me ... the anchor babes are too rigid and the weather guy is way overdone ... it resembles a Saturday Night Live skit ...

No. 2 looks more legit if such a phrase can be used to describe any TV weather person.

I think the confident one actually made me cringe more

"Once a day ain't nothin'!"

The first guy is just a trainwreck, but the second guy is genuinely terrifying. It's as if he's trying to get fired.

Mathis got fired for checking himself into an alcohol rehab program, which is pretty shitty regardless of what you think about the guy. His on air persona was sort of the bastard lovechild of Ethyl Merman and Jim Varney.

The only weatherman I trust is John-John Mackey and his Storm-Tracker Accu-Cast!

I read up on the first video the other day... it is from a public-access/PBS type channel that broadcasts some shows from a college Media Studies department (as mentioned by jpburns).
Hence the "first day of class" look.

Am I the only one who isn't surprised when the "confident, sometimes controversial funnyman" turns out to be an alcoholic cokehead? With his on-air mannerisms, the only thing that surprises me is that he never got busted doing lines off the anchorwoman's tits during a commercial break.

I would watch the weather if that second guy were my weatherman.

"Insecure Weatherman" is on a college tv station, Ohio University Broadcasting in Athens. I'm guessing that the poor guy is doing this solely because it was a requirement for some Broadcast Journalism course he signed up for. That said, I must admit that it cheered me up as I recall my own glorious college broadcasting career: there's at least one poor guy in the world with less of a knack for it.

What's interesting about the contrast is that you can go into any bookstore and find a shelf of books on "How to Overcome Shyness/Stagefright/Self-conciousness"; and yet I've never come across any title telling extroverts how to tone it down.

(Does anyone have a more Apple-friendly link for "Confident Weatherman"?)

heh. Those guys are chumps.
We got us a REAL weatherman in the PNW. Jeff Renner. Author, diver, pilot, mountaineer AND he has a booshy mustache. My old roommate and I refer to him as the "Weather Mack"...'cause, he's the mack.

Um, are there any medical professionals reading who can tell me what exactly is wrong with number two? I mean, are there any meds that can cure that?

John Kettley is a weatherman.

What is the guy in the background saying after Mark Mathis says something about needing more time on the air? It's about three quarters of the way in, I think.

you really hit the nail on the head with both points. maybe he just wasn't going to be entertaining enough without the substance abuse.

Anybody seen that Pamela Anderson video?

THAT BOX NEEDS TO BE JUST A LITTLE BIT BIGGER. TRUST ME.

I think that Mark Mathis was the really early weatherman on Austin's KXAN a few years ago. He was pretty lame tame back then.

It is incredibly difficult coordinating yourself in front of a TV monitor. You have to re-learn all of your movements because it is the opposite of looking at yourself in the mirror. When you move your left arm to the left, your image's left arm also moves to the left (which is your right). Clearly the first guy hadn't had enough training and knew it as soon as he was given the cue to stand up.

Oh, a friend of mine swears that substitute weatherman Merle Kachenmeister (Toledo) said: "Did you see that? That cameraman just gave me the finger."

I'm pretty sure it's legit. WOUB is the student station for Ohio University, which has a pretty good communications school. And DirtyCreature is right -- it is harder than you think to point accurately at a spot on a chroma-keyed weather map. You often are looking at a monitor in front of you, as well as (sometimes) monitors on each side.

I also recognize the anchor on the right; she works for WTAP in Parkersburg, WV now, and her station bio says she went to OU and worked at WOUB.

no-reg link:

Fans of his wacky weatherman act on WCCB-TV wouldn't have known him.

Even Mark Mathis wasn't sure who the man in the mirror was -- drunken, disheveled, solitary, hunkered down in a $99 room at a Doubletree hotel, a weekend destination he had chosen because he knew he could get vodka from room service if the bottle he'd brought along didn't do the trick.
