For Sale: Wothahellizat? It's definitely not built for speed, but this weird off-road truck is truly a labor of love.

Wo - it's a prototype of the Jawa sandcrawler from ep3! Cool! :-)

Well, either that, or something out of Mad Max...

Fuel 600 litres (130gals) diesel.

Multiply that by the current diesel fuel cost rate (in my area it's around $2.50 per gallon) and you pay a whopping $325 to fill the tank. I hope it has good fuel mileage!

C17H19NO3 : "I hope it has good fuel mileage!"

According to the scan of the newspaper article, 3 km/litre.

I got a distinct Autoduel vibe myself.

For people using the Imperial system, if my math is right, it would be 8.6 miles/gallon.

Well, the first linked article says it averages "3km/1" which I presume means 3 kilometers to the liter of fuel. That means 1.864 miles to the 0.220 gallons, or about 8.5 miles to the gallon. Ouch.

Of course, you have to think about this: no mortgages or rent payments or utilities. You don't even have to pay for electricity-- it's solar. This thing is pretty cool. I think it would be a good investment.

On preview, bugbread beat me to it. Ah well.

$175,000

Not such a bad deal. If you bring that to the U.S. you could easily recoup that cost by slapping a couple billboards on the side.

I was impressed by the two-motorcycle garage.

Then I saw that he powers a MIG welder from the truck. Crap dude, that's amazing!

Lots of pics of converted trucks (and buses) at Mr. Sharkey's, no off road though. I've thought of building something like this myself, but smaller and cheaper. I'd start with a 4x4 school bus (yes, such things exist) and do the conversion. I don't think its on Mr. Sharkey's page, but there is a guy who converted a double length Metro bus (the type that bends in the middle and has accordion folds over the gap) into living space. He used the back half as a garage for his car.
