The fellow at Top Secret Recipes reverse engineered four of his soups and also conducted a brief interview with Al Yeganeh: Cream of Potato, Chicken Chili, Mulligatawny, and Crab Bisque.

$10 for a cup of soup? He's not that famous.

"For $10, customers will get eight ounces of soup — the menu includes seafood bisque, chili and other more exotic soups — plus bread, a drink, fresh fruit and a chocolate."

Riiiiiiiight.

Wow, he's just a bit late to cash in on this. You think?

Is the censorship in this post automated, or just sort of misguided?

It's just a word. Replacing some of the letters with asterisks draws more attention to it than necessary.

He's hoping that releasing the Seinfeld DVDs will help out. Talk about missing the boat...

the worst thing he could've done is say that it was him launching the stores.

Aside from missing the boat, jumping the shark, glomming onto a forgotten icon, pissing on my back....

tpoh is right--he's years and years too late. Daily Soup, Hale & Hearty, and every sandwich place (chain or not) and deli has a variety of soups.

I've had his soup, bread and fruit combo thingy. It's well worth the cash. That's my soup, nigga.

Yeah, I'm with Neckro and Blacklite here. That's the only N-word I figured would be worthy of censorship. Then I noticed it had too few asterisks.

What haqspan said. If you're going to judge him and his soup based on a dumb TV caricature and/or the fact that it costs more than the crap you can get at your corner deli, so much the worse for you, so much the more soup for those of us with taste buds. (I'll spare you my full Al Yeganeh rant.) But I do find it depressing that he's succumbed to the franchising temptation; the quality can't possibly be maintained that way, and I suppose it's only a matter of time before he sells the whole thing to some international megalocorp and retires to make ambrosia for a few lucky friends and family members. Ah well.

If he can command $10 for an eight-ounce bowl o' soup, more power to him. But I let myself get seduced into blowing over $11 on a Reuben once, and while it was pretty good, high prices tend to make me think twice about being a repeat customer, no matter how good the eatery's reputation is.

that place (Katzinger's) looks like a direct Zingerman's ripoff. the latter is the only place I'd pay $10+ for a half-sandwich, not so coincidentally.

I assume the poster is cleverly referring to rule #1.

Can you imagine how many trouble makers would wander in making a nuisance of themsevles, in order to get banned for one year?

For no reason, I just want to post here that there is at least one other excellent soup man out there.

Gary the Soup Man, at That Hot Dog Place, in Red Bank, NJ.

Go.

I like the black bean, and the lentil.

In Milwaukee, one of the members of the Soupmacht started a restaurant called soup bros. that's supposed to be pretty good.
